Swine fever confirmed, official announcement likely today

The unknown disease which infected some pigs reared by one Sapam Noren at Heingang Awang Leikai has been confirmed as swine fever.
According to information received from Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Department, it was swine fever which infected Noren's pigs.
Incidentally, all the 32 pigs reared by Noren were vaccinated twice with Korean made swine fever vaccine.
Out of the 32 pigs, 14 got were infected by the swine fever and died three/four months after they were vaccinated with the vaccine manufactured in Korea.
Infection of pigs by swine fever would be declared officially tomorrow (April 24) .
Meanwhile, some seven/eight pigs are suffering from an unknown disease with fever being the common symptom at Singjamei Waikhom Leikai.

Korean strand of virus which causes swine fever is different from that of Indian strand.
Accordingly, Government of India instructed the State Government to vaccinate pigs only with the vaccine manufactured at the Indian Veterinary Research Institute based at Izzatnagar, UP.
In spite of the instructions, large of pigs were vaccinated with the Korean manufactured vaccine.
All the Korean made vaccines used in vaccinating the pigs were purchased from Dog Care Centre, Konung Mamang.
Dog Care Centre procured the vaccines from Tamu, Myanmar where there is a dealer of the Korean made vaccine.
Meanwhile, Sapam Noren informed that four more pigs have died from the unknown disease which has now been confirmed as swine fever in the last couple of days.
He blamed the Heingang Veterinary Sub-Centre for the death of the four pigs.
He alleged that the sub-centre has not been not functioning effectively at all.
On April 17, three officials of Veterinary Department came to Noren's house and asked him to bring his ailing pigs to Sanjenthong Veterinary Hospital for collection of blood samples.
Accordingly, Noren was compelled to hire a vehicle and take the ailing pigs to Sanjenthong.
