Imphal, August 22 2020:
The State's COVID-19 death toll has touched 22 following the death of a 70 years old woman this morning.
Meanwhile, taking serious note of the fact that Imphal West district accounts for the bulk of COVID-19 positive cases reported during the last couple of weeks, containment measures have been beefed up in the capital district.
According to a press release issued by Additional Director (Health) and COVID-19 Common Control Room spokesman Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang, a COVID-19 positive woman (73) from Thoubal district died at JNIMS this morning.
She was admitted to the hospital on August 20 .

The deceased had suffered stroke earlier and she was also a diabetes patient.
Till this morning, the number of COVID-19 positive cases reached 1117 in Imphal West district alone.
Taking serious note of this disturbing development, sample collection as well as surveillance activities have been enhanced in the district.
It is said that the State Surveillance Officer has been closely monitoring the COVID-19 situation in Imphal West district.
Saying that due arrangements have been made to test tanker drivers for COVID-19, Dr Sasheekumar opined that optimal time for testing is 5-7 days after contact.
As such, when a positive case is detected at a locality, it would not be correct to expect immediate testing of all those people who were in contact with the particular individual.
Self-isolation is the best action during such period, said the spokesman.
On the other hand, 83 individuals including 22 CAPF personnel were tested positive for COVID-19 during the last 24 hours at RIMS, JNIMS, Raj Medicity, Shija Hospital, Public Hospital, Babina Diagnostic Centre, Jivan Hospital, Mothers Care, Imphal West RAT, Chura-chandpur RAT, Bishnupur RAT and Imphal East RAT.
Of the 61 civilians who have been tested positive for the contagion, 26 belong to Imphal West, five to Bishnupur, 17 to Imphal East, three to Chandel, five to Thoubal, one to Kakching and four to Churachandpur.
Except for one resident of Chandel district, the other 60 civilians have no history of travelling outside the State.
Meanwhile, 198 COVID-19 patients have been discharged during the last 24 hours from RIMS (24), CCC Lamboi Khongnangkhong (58), CCC Meitram (38), CCC Chandel (8), CCC Thoubal (22), DH Thoubal (5), CCC Ukhrul (2), CCC Kamjong (6) and RD Wing (31) after they were found COVID-19 free.
The cumulative figure of COVID-19 positive cases in the State has gone up to 5132 (general public 3798, Central security personnel 1334) .
This figure includes 1655 active cases (general public 839, Central security personnel 816) and 3455 discharged cases (general public 2938, Central security personnel 517).The recovery rate as on Saturday is 67.32 per cent.
A late report informed that 23 samples were found positive for the contagion out of 481 samples tested today at JNIMS but the details could not be obtained till the time of filing this report.
Meanwhile, sources in the Imphal West district administration said 10, including two CDO personnel and 8 personnel of 69th CRPF Mantripukhri have tested positive for COVID-19 on Rapid Antigen Testing (RAT).
Two BRTF personnel have also tested positive for COVID-19 at RIMS today.
