No decision will be taken to resolve crisis sans approval of people : CM

Imphal, June 21 2024: Chief Minister N Biren has categorically stated that any decision to resolve the protracted crisis in Manipur will not be implemented without taking the approval of the State Government and the people.

Saying that the Central leadership takes the issue in Manipur very seriously, N Biren said that the Centre also acknowledges the threat being posed by illegal immigrants to the country especially the North East region.

Addressing the International Yoga Day observance at Khuman Lampak today, N Biren continued that he as the Chief Minister is not authorised to participate in all meetings of the Central leaders while referring to his absence in the recent meeting presided by Union Home Minister Amit Shah to review the situation in Manipur.

The Chief Minister also said that he didn't invite the Cabinet Ministers while discussing the security concern in Manipur with top brass of CID and police on many occasions.

He further said that the recent meeting chaired by Amit Shah was to discuss security concerns and not political issues.

It may be mentioned that the First Secretary, Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations in Geneva Kshitij Tyagi had recently said that the increased influx from Myanmar into India's North Eastern States and the challenge of transnational crimes such as drug and human trafficking continue to remain an area of grave concern.

He said that what Kshitij Tyagi placed before the United Nations was on behalf of 140 crore Indians and it speaks volume of the concern being shown for the people in the region (North East States) .

Saying that the unrest in Manipur didn't happen overnight and it will take time to resolve the crisis and restore normalcy, N Biren added that the prevailing situation in Manipur is an outcome of the chronic issue besieging Manipur since the last over 20-30 years.

There is no question of the Indian Government disregarding the interests of Manipur, N Biren said while recounting the statement given by Amit Shah on safeguarding the State and the demographic challenges being posed by illegal immigrants.

The Chief Minister also said that resolving the crisis in Manipur is one of the agendas of the 100 day action programme of the Modi led Government 3.0 .

He however didn't elaborate what the action plans are to resolve the crisis.

The Chief Minister further said that the people should acknowledge the Prime Minister, the Union Home Minister and RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat for taking up initiatives to resolve the crisis.

The Chief Minister also said that he is in touch with the Union Home Minister, Cabinet Ministers, MLAs, CSO leaders and intellectuals constantly.

On being asked about the purported move to send more Central forces in Manipur, N Biren responded that what is more unpleasant is those coming out to safeguard Manipur engaging in all sorts of criminal activities.

Security measures will automatically relax if all these abductions, extortions, demanding money from shopkeepers, placing bombs in residential areas stop, he added.

Safeguarding the State and the indigenous people must be the topmost priority now, he said and added that those coming out to protect Manipur must not extort money from the people.

Expressing disappointment over some people giving unruly statements, N Biren added that he was also an Editor of a newspaper in the past and had worked with different CSOs during crucial stages in the recent history of Manipur.

Without taking any name, the Chief Minister said that every person has a tolerable limit and people must exercise restraint while giving statements.

The Chief Minister also spoke about the benefits of yoga and added that it helps in building a healthy body and mind as well as healthier and well disciplined society.

He added that many schools, colleges and institutions have included yoga in their curriculum.

Governor Anusuiya Uikey also celebrated International Day of Yoga at Raj Bhavan in Imphal today.

After the yoga session, the Governor insisted the people of Manipur practice yoga daily while highlighting the benefits of yoga to one's mental and physical health.

She also extended her wishes to all the officers, staff, security personnel and officials from Ayush Department who took part in the yoga session.
