Imphal, May 20 2022:
After 26 months, that is since March 24, 2020, with the exception of once or twice for brief periods in between, Manipur finally became Covid free as the last three persons infected with the virus reportedly recovered in the last 24 hours.
However it still remains to be seen how long Manipur will remain Covid free as there are still at least 15,000 active Covid cases across the country and neighbouring Mizoram has 200 active cases, as on May 18 .
On Friday Manipur recorded a sort of a landmark achievement in its fight against Covid-19 by reducing the number of active cases to zero.
Till yesterday, there were three active cases, all civilians.
Now all of them have recovered.

Notably, the first Covid-19 case in Manipur was detected on March 24, 2020 when a 23 year old girl returning from London was tested positive for the virus.
Since then, the State has been battling against the pandemic.
There was neither any report of Covid-19 positive case nor of Covid related death during the last 24 hours even though the pandemic had already claimed 2120 lives in the State.
Altogether 71 samples were subjected to Covid-19 test during the last 24 hours and all of them turned out to be negative.
The cumulative number of positive cases in the State stands at 1,37,230 (general population 1,32,216 and Central security personnel 5,014) .
This figure includes 1,35,110 recovered cases (general population 1,30,103 and Central security personnel 5,007) .
The recovery rate as on Friday is 98.45 per cent.
This is after taking into account the number of people who didn't recover (succumbed to the virus).
The cumulative number of Covid vaccine doses administered in the State has reached 28,80,148 (first dose 15,66,086, second dose 12,21,353 and precautionary dose 92,709) .
Till Thursday, 61.81 per cent of the State's total eligible population has received the first dose of Covid vaccine while 51.89 per cent has been given both the first and second dose.
