Bandh supporters clash with police

Police today fired several rounds of tear gas shell on a group of violent bandh supporters at Hatta and Minuthong areas after they damaged vehicles and injured some persons.
Although, these areas remained peaceful in the morning, bandh supporters came out on the street at around 1.30 pm and blocked traffic by burning tyres.
Even as police were trying to clear the road, some bandh supporters pelted stones on the vehicles and passers-by, who were travelling on Minuthong bridge, from Imphal river bank.
It is said that a couple of vehicles were damaged and some passesby received minor injury in the protest.
Police chased the bandh supporters by firing several rounds of tear gas shells on them.
After a brief violent confrontation, police detained two of them.

During this confrontation, police diverted the vehicles and pedestrians to other routes.
It may be mentioned that the JAC constituted in connection with the death of Md Lukaman of Thoubal Moijing announced a 24-hour State-wide general strike with effect from March 19 midnight demanding arrest of the culprits.
Except for some Muslim dominated areas, the bandh was not effective in most parts of the State.
Troops arrest injured cadres : Troops of Red Shield Division arrested two injured cadres of NSCN (IM) from Khoupum area under Khoupum police station in Tamenglong district today, said a reliable source.
The duo have been identified as self styled corporal Belung (24) s/o Karaiba of Upper Taphou village in Senapati district and lance corporal David (24) s/o Pehenbou of Tharon village in Tamenglong district.
The source speculated that the cadres might have got injured in a gunfight with a rival group.
They have been handed over to Khoupum police station after treatment at a medical facility of Red Shield Division, the source added.
Gun fights between rival underground outfits have regularly broken out at Tamenglong district in the recent past.
