SHS issues directive to check medical history

Imphal, February 20 2021: A day after a female Anganwadi worker died in the aftermath of Covid vaccination, the State Health Society has issued a memorandum today directing all medical authorities to enquire about medical history of the persons concerned before giving the vaccine jabs.

The memorandum issued by P Shyamsunder Singh, Chairman COVID-19 Core Committee, who is also Director of Family Welfare Services said all the Chief Medical Officers, DFWOs, DIOs, MSs of Government and private hospitals, MO in-charge of health facilities should enquire about the persons' history of allergies, medication and treatment for other diseases before Covid vaccination.

A person should not be vaccinated if he/she has an active illness due to any disease.

Covid vaccination is a voluntary exercise, it said.

The medical authorities concerned should hold district AEFI (Adverse Event Following Immunization) meetings regularly and just after AEFI cases.

The district trainers concerned should also conduct training on management of AEFI for all the Medical Officers, it added.

The memorandum also listed names of authorities concerned of the districts and their mobile numbers for contact in case of AEFIs.

Further, another memorandum of the State Health Society also listed pharmacists assigned to work as tele-counsellor for COVID-19 enquiry and AEFI related queries.

It may be noted that the female Anganwadi worker hailed from Bishnupur district and she had reportedly developed rashes and allergic reactions days after Covid vaccination.

She got vaccinated with the first dose of Covishield on February 12 and she died yesterday.
