3 digit spurt continues with 358 new cases

Imphal, January 19 2022:
Manipur continues to report new Covid cases in triple digit as 358 fresh infections were detected in the last 24 hours, increasing the active caseload to 2004 which was just 215 at the beginning of the year (January 2) .
Despite repeated explanation from experts including WHO that vaccination is the only way to defeat the pandemic, the rate of full vaccination is still very low in certain hill districts such as Kangpopki (13.56 percent), Ukhrul (19.18 percent) and Kamjong (23.23 percent) .
The fresh cases which include 23 CAPF personnel were confirmed at RIMS (44), JNIMS (52) and other testing centres (262) .
Infection amongst the Central security personnel has also seen a sharp spike in the last few days.
Among the districts, Imphal West recorded the highest number of positive cases at 156 (879 samples tested) while Tengnoupal updated a test positivity rate of 25 percent as three of the 12 samples from the district returned positive.
Other than Jiribam, all districts detected at least one Covid case and the figure of the Government bulletin for the period read Bishnupur (16 cases and TPR of 12.2 percent); Chandel (17 cases and TPR of 23 percent); Churachandpur (44 cases and TPR of 18.9 percent); Imphal East (78 cases and TPR of 18.9 percent); Imphal West (156 cases and TPR of 17.7 ); Kakching (7 cases and TPR of 13.5 percent); Kamjong (3 cases and TPR of 23.1 percent); Kangpokpi (1 case and TPR of 3.6 percent); Noney (6 cases and TPR of 19.4 percent); Pherzawl (one case and TPR of 16.7 percent); Senapati (2 cases and .8 percent); Tamenglong (8 cases and TPR of 12.1 percent); Tengnoupal (3 cases and TPR of 25 percent); Thoubal (15 cases and TPR of 10.3 percent) and Ukhrul (one case and TPR of 6.3 percent) .
The overall daily positivity rate in the State stood at 14.3 percent as 358 out of 2,508 samples tested returned positive results in the last 24 hours.
No Covid deaths were reported in the last 24 hours and as such the death toll remains at 2015, with Imphal West topping the chart at 676 followed closely by Imphal East (483).Pherzawl has not reported any Covid fatalities so far.
As 145 persons were discharged today from home isolation (54), JNIMS (10) and CCCs (81), the recovered cases have risen to 1,24,212 (including 4,458 CAPF personnel) .
The recovery rate stands at 96.86 percent.
So far 1,28,231 Covid positive cases have been detected in Manipur.
Yesterday, the State distributed 138 D-type and 68 B-type oxygen cylinders to different health facilities and administered 6630 Covid vaccine doses.
278 Covid beds are lying vacant in JNIMS and another 122 in RIMS which have a bed capacity of 300 and 190 respectively.
Jiribam is at the top of the vaccination table as it has fully vaccinated 59.48 percent of its eligible population.
The State has fully vaccinated 43.75 pc of its eligible population.
