Obituary references to two late Governors ; Two-day Assembly session begins

The 12th session of the 10th Manipur Legislative Assembly was opened today with obituary reference to late Governors VK Nair and Syed Ahmed.
All the Members of the House observed silence for two minutes in honour of the departed souls of the former Governors.
During the obituary reference, Chief Minister O Ibobi remarked that ex-Governor VK Nair who expired on November 30 this year was a man of discipline.
He was deeply concerned with the welfare of not only Manipur but also all the North Eastern States.
He was a capable administrator who was able to give practical advice to the State Government regarding the State's law and order situation, added Ibobi.
Dr Syed Ahmed expired at Lilabati Hospital, Mumbai on September 22 this year.

Though Dr Syed Ahmed served as the Governor of Manipur for a very brief period, he was also a shrewd administrator.
He acted as the State Government's guide towards setting up several educational institutions in the State.
He was a rare personality who gave valuable advices to the Government towards establishment of a private university and a cultural university in the State, Ibobi stated.
While condoling the demise of the two former Governors, the Chief Minister conveyed solidarity to the bereaved families.
He also prayed that the departed souls may rest in peace in heavenly abode.
Khumukcham Joykishan, I Hemochandra, Th Shyamkumar and N Biren took part in giving obituary reference to the two late Governors.
Joykishan hailed VK Nair and Dr Syed Ahmed as capable and sincere administrators.
I Hemochandra remarked that VK Nair was committed to Nationalism and the country's security.
Dr Syed Ahmed was a popular leader trusted by the public.
N Biren said that VK Nair was very worried about possible disintegration of the North Eastern States.
Biren also highlighted the possible impacts of the political dialogue between Government of India and NSCN-IM on Manipur as well as the need on the part of the State politicians to work hand in hand with civil society organisations.
