Imphal, October 18 2019: Head Office of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) located at BT road here in Imphal witnessed a war-scene-like situation today afternoon as large number of state police force cordoned the main entry gate of the Congress office trying to prevent the congress activists from staging protest or burning effigy of Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal.

Large number of congress party members including CLP leader Okram Ibobi, MPCC President Gaikhangam, MLA K Ranjit, MLA Mirabai, MLA Th.Lokeshore , Moirangthem Okendro, Victor Keishing among others along with congress activists stage a sit-in -protest demanding unconditional apology from Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal for his derogatory statement to AICC president Sonia Gandhi.

Addressing a BJP rally, Sonipat in Haryana, CM Manohar Lal had humiliated the Congress president by mocking at her and the congress party about 5 days back.

"After the defeat in the Lok Sabha election, Rahul (Gandhi) quit as party president and said the new Congress chief would not be from the Gandhi family.

We welcomed his decision.

It is good to end dynasty politics.

Then, these people started searching (for a new president)...

After three months, they made Sonia Gandhi the Congress chief.

It was like khoda pahaad, nikli chuhiya, woh bhi mari hui...(like digging up a mountain to find a mouse, that too a dead one)", this statement delivered by the chief Minister was termed as irresponsible by almost all members of the Congress party including the leaders of the Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee , Gaikhangam and Ibobi among others.

At around noon, the congress activist while staging a protest demonstration tried to burn the effigy of the Haryana Chief Minister, however, large number of police team who were already on the site snatch the effigy and dismantle the sets for protest.

Former Chief Minister and CLP leader Okram Ibobi and MPCC president Gaikhangam along with other congress legislatures were left with no choice but to stand in surprise as the congress activists confronted the police team.

Later, the Congress leaders and the workers went inside the MPCC office complex and burnt the effigy of the Haryana Chief Minister shouting slogans demanding immediate apology for his derogatory statement.

"This a totalitarian regime, we are not allowed to stage democratic protest", MPCC president Gaikhangam told media persons.

On being asked why the main gate of the MPCC office had to be closed during the protest that too inside the office premises, Gaikhangam said that the congress workers had already experienced excess and brutalities of the state force under the command of the present government.

"They had fired tear gas shells, mock bomb inside the office complex of the MPCC during a protest demonstration earlier , many workers sustained injury and many had to be hospitalized.

As we do not want our workers to get injured by their drastic action our workers might have closed the gate", Gaikhangam said.

The MPCC president further lambasted the present BJP led regime for their humiliation to the constitution of India.

" Lamdamse Yom leibak oirakadoure (The is becoming a land of Yumraj)", Gaikhangam said showing serious concern to the present BJP regime terming it as a Totalitarian regime.

Citizens or political parties are not allowed to raise their voice against their policy and programme and the voice of the dissent had never been listened by them, Gaikhangam added.
