Panchayat Polls Result: Half of the results out on day one

Imphal, September 17 2012:
Almost 50 per cent of the September 13 Panchayat polls held in four valley districts of Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal and Bishnupur have been declared on Monday.
The counting of votes began at 8 am amid heavy security arrangements in the district headquarters which have been brought under CrPC 144 .
For Imphal East, counting of votes took place at the complex of the Deputy Commissioner by three Returning Officers on 12 tables each.
As per results available at late evening, one Zilla Parishad Member, three Pradhans and 32 Members were declared elected for Sawombung RO .
Two Zilla Parishad Members, five Pradhans and 46 Members were also declared elected for Porompat RO, Imphal East.
For Keirao RO, one Zilla Parishad Member, three Pradhans and 50 Members were declared elected.

In respect of Jiribam ADC which falls under Imphal East district, counting of votes were carried out at the ADC complex.
One Zilla Parishad Member, three Pradhans and 25 Members were declared elected.
For Imphal West district, three ROs counted the votes at the concerned DC complex.
One Zilla Parishad Member, three Pradhans and 28 Members were declared elected for Wangoi RO.
For Patsoi RO, one Zilla Parishad Member, six Pradhans and 43 Members were.
The results got till late evening for Thoubal district were--three Zilla Parishad Members, eight Pradhans and 88 members were declared elected for Thoubal RO, three Zilla Parishad Members, six Pradhans and 64 Members for Kakching RO and Two Pradhans and 89 Members for Lilong RO.
Results for Bishnupur district was not available.
Notably, in the 4th Panchayat polls, one Pradhan, one Zilla Parishad Member and 97 Members have already been declared elected uncontest.
The polls were held to elect 60 Zilla Parishad Members, 161 Pradhans and 1,514 Gram Panchayat Members from the four valley districts.
In the Panchayat polls, 231 candidates contested for the 60 Zilla Parishad seats, 595 candidates for 161 seats for Pradhans and 3794 candidates are in the fray for 1514 seats of Gram Panchayat Members.
The rest of the results are likely to declare in the next two days.
