No end to alert rallies under COCOMI

Thousands of people took part in an alert rally in Imphal East district today under the banner of Co-ordinating Body Khurai in support of COCOMI's stand against any impact to the integrity of Manipur due to the Naga peace talks and to convene a Special Assembly Session immediately.
The rally began from Khurai Puthiba community hall with a large number of senior citizens and people from different communities residing in Khurai and its surrounding area taking part.
Taking the situation into consideration, Imphal East district police made heavy security arrangements by putting up iron barricades at various junctions.

The rally from Khurai Puthiba marched towards Lamlong bridge but from there it was diverted towards Khurai Telipati road by the police.
After passing Soibam Leikai, Ananda Singh crossing, JN Hospital crossing and Ayangpali JN road, the rally concluded at Khurai Puthiba community hall where a public meeting was held.
Four resolutions were adopted in the meeting which included no compromise on the integrity of Manipur, disclosure of the details of the Naga peace accord and the Framework Agreement, convening a Special Assembly Session immediately and for the 60 MLAs and 4 MPs of the State to go to Delhi and lobby against any harm to the State and its interests.
Nambol Block Congress Committee also staged a sit in protest in front of its office today supporting COCOMI's demands.
Speaking on the sidelines of the protest, Nambol Municipal Council Councillor L Biramani said that the people are apprehensive of the possible impact on Manipur as a result of the Naga peace talks.
Cautioning against any impact on the interests of the State due to the peace talks, he demanded the State Government to convene a Special Assembly Session immediately and take a firm stand for the welfare of the Manipur and its people.
On the other hand, NBCC president L Lokendro said that a peaceful solution to the protracted Naga political issue is welcome.
However, the said solution should not affect the administrative, political and economic setup of Manipur in anyway nor impact on its integrity, he warned.
Panthoibi Group of Companies also staged an alert sit in protest in front of the office of Panthoibi Housing Finance Company Ltd at Uripok Tourangbam Leikai.
During the sit in, the people carried placards containing slogans like 'We stand for the integrity of Manipur', 'Long live Manipur', 'No compromise in Manipur boundary', 'Manipur land belongs to Manipur only' etc.
Members of Sand and Stone Labour Association and 407, DI, 909 Tata Magic Association, also staged similar protests in front of DM College Gate today.
Protests were also held at Irilbung, Khongampat Mantri Leikai, Lamlong Keithel Wangkhei Thambal Khong, Lamlai Keithel, Yaingangpokpi, Napet Palli and Khurai Lairikyengbam Leikai.
Later in the evening at about 7.30 a meira rally organised by the Soibam Leikai Ayangpalli Youth Club and Ayangpalli Progressive Women's Organi- sation was staged.
