Imphal, December 13 2019: Even though BJP National secretary Ram Madhav does not hold any Ministerial post in the Central Government, he was received with much fanfare and pomp at Khwairamband Keithel today for the Central Government's step of extending ILPS to the State.

Notably, many AMSU volunteers were still detained by police for their anti-CAB agitation when Ram Madhav was accorded a hero's welcome.

Speaking at the reception function, Ram Madhav said that CAB is for the whole country, not for Assam or Manipur alone.

He categorically stated that CAB would not affect the North East in any manner.

In his speech, Chief Minister N Biren called upon the gathering to adopt a decision to the effect that the Ima Keithels of Khwairamband and educational institutes are no longer used for creating public unrest.

Notably, some volunteers of AMSU were arrested by police on the charge of attempting to disturb law and order by supporting the total shut down called by NESO all over the North East region on December 10 .

However, all the arrested students were released today for lack of evidence in support of the charges levelled against them.

On the other hand, MANPAC has declared that they would carry on different forms of protest agitation against CAB as ILPS would not be very effective in protecting Manipur from any demographic invasion.

The Manipur Students' Federation (MSF) too has expressed strong scepticism against the effectiveness of ILPS in protecting Manipur from CAB and influx of non-local people.

Speaking at the reception function, Ram Madhav said that false propagandas are being circulated about the policies and activities of the Modi Government in the North East.

He then appealed to the people not to fall prey to such propaganda.

He said that there is no question of bringing in outsiders to the North East through CAB.

It is only those people who fled persecution in Bangladesh, Pakistan and Afghanistan and came to India on or before December 31, 2014 who would be granted Indian citizenship.

There is public unrest in Assam and some other places on account of misinterpretation of CAB, Ram Madhav said.

The people of Manipur have been granted ILPS which is better placed than the Manipur People Bill for safeguarding their identity, culture, language etc, he claimed.

He said that the Central Government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given more than what the people of Manipur asked for.

When such a Government is there at the Centre, there is no need for CSOs of the State to undertake any protest movement, Ram Madhav said.

He also appealed to UG groups of the State to come to the negotiating table and hold dialogue with the Government of India.

Biren said, "Other people would see the people of Manipur wrongly if we don't celebrate and express gratitude after the Modi Government has granted ILPS which is more than Manipur People Bill 2018" .

Forest and Environment Minister Th Shyamkumar, Kakching AC MLA Y Surchandra and Khurai AC MLA L Susindro too attended the reception function.
