Imphal, July 13 2018: Members of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parisad (ABVP) today stage sit-in-protest at Keishampar Leimajam Leikai demanding opening of the Manipur University for over 40 days due to the agitation demanding resignation of Vice Chancellor Prof.Adya Pandey Prasad by MUSU, MUTA and MUSA.

Similar protest was also held in front of Jiribam College by volunteers of ABVP from 11 am till 2.30 pm.

"We are not concern on the demand for resignation of Vice Chancellor, but we are more concern about the fate of the 1000s students whose career are at risk over failure to declare the semester examination", National Executive member of ABVP Sharatchandra Hoabijam talk to Imphal Times.

"The forceful closing of the university demanding the resignation of the Vice Chancellor Prof.Adya Prasad Pandey on various allegation by MUSU, MUTA and MUSA has resulted to many difficulties to the students and research scholars of the university and also students of those colleges affiliated to it", a statement of the ABVP said.

It said due to the prolonged shut down of the University students are facing many problems.

The main problems are that exams of various departments of MU are either stopped midway or are not yet started, all academic activities have been stopped affecting classes and research works, many files and documents that needs to be cleared are held up affecting thousands of students in applying for various courses or jobs, evaluation of semester exams of graduate courses are not even started yet which will delay the results and which will bar many students from admission in masters courses in other universities, a whole year will be lost for thousands of students and many sanctions and communications to be made with various departments like UGC are not done which will be a big loss for the university and students.

The ABVP feels that any agitation or movement in colleges or university should be in democratic way and should never be a hindrance to the academic activities, it stated.

The statement also added that the ABVP has approached all the stakeholders including the Chief Minister and the Governor of Manipur and has requested to bring the ongoing tussle to an amicable end by dialogue."But it is unfortunate that there has been no concrete step taken up from their end especially the Chief Minister who has to intervene and bring a way out", the ABVP said.

The ABVP statement also said that the agitation groups may take up other means like going to the court of law with concrete proofs of the allegations they are making which if proved right will definitely take its own course but keeping hostage of lacs of students career and future to get their demands is completely wrong and should be condemned.

The statement further added that a thorough investigation is required in the allegation against the VC and the VC's claim that the agitation may be related to the unlawful demands made by certain outfits.

The investigation should also bring in its preview the students, the teachers and other staffs of the university and most importantly the existing CBl enquiry against the alleged irregularity in purchase of items during the regime of the previous VC Prof.HNK Sharma's regime should also be looked into if it has any link with the agitation.

ABVP NE cell at Delhi along with its Delhi unit will also stage a protest simultaneously to draw the attention of the MRD Minister Prakash Javadekar and press for solving the issue at the earliest and savings the future of lacs of students.
