Ready to talk : Naga outfits

The 'Working Group' of six Naga outfits has expressed its readiness to enter into a political negotiation with the Government of India "for a lasting political solution" to the protracted Naga political problem if invited by the latter (Government of India) .
The six Naga outfits popularly known as the Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs) are NNC/FGN, GPRN/NSCN (also known by many as Unification group), NSCN(R), NNC (Parent body), NNC/GDRN (N/A), NPGN/NNC (N/A).These six Naga outfits will jointly work under the NNPG-Working Group towards the common aspiration of the people, a press release made available to Newmai News Network this evening by Nagaland Tribes Council (NTC) said.

According to the statement, the Nagaland Tribes Council (NTC) Mediation Committee had a meeting with the six outfits (NNPGs) under the platform of the 'Working Group' at Tourist Lodge in Dimapur on June 12.The statement said that the meeting reaffirmed its earlier commitment to work "cohesively in the best interest of the Naga people as a whole" .
"Henceforth, the six NNPGs will jointly work under the NNPG-Working Group towards the common aspiration of the people," it stated.
Interestingly, leaders of the Nagaland Tribes Council (NTC) had met Prime Minister Narendra Modi last month on the prevailing Naga situation.
Again, a few days ago the NTC had issued a statement saying that "it is time for the Nagas to end internal conflicts and to find answers to our disputes" .
That statement of the NTC also called upon the "Naga people to prepare the ground for sustainable settlement to the protracted political issue towards this end" while adding that "one of the principal methods for mitigating the acrimonies amongst ourselves is to talk honestly, to be honest to oneself and to one another" .
Meanwhile, the NTC stated that yesterday's meeting began with 2 minutes of silence in respect of the departed "Naga leader SS Khaplang who left for his heavenly abode" .
