Imphal, March 13 2025:
In a shocking turn of events, over 30 internally displaced families in Kangchup have found themselves in an even more precarious situation after their names reportedly vani-shed from relief camp records.
Stranded and helpless, these displaced families now confront another predicament, trapped in a state of limbo.
In this regard, a meeting of different relief camps set up at Kangchup was held today.
Speaking to the media, one Angom Thoibi, an inmate of Panchayat Ghar relief camp at Kangchup, said that many houses situated in the surrounding areas of Kangchup have either been set ablaze or flattened by Kuki militants and their associates while many others got damaged in repeated attacks.

Saying that they first fled to Phayeng and took refuge at Phayeng High School relief camp following the onslaught by Kukis, she added that she and some IDPs shifted to Panchayat Ghar relief camp as Pha-yeng High School got overcrowded.
Continuing that they have been taking refuge at Pan-chayat Ghar relief camp and some private sheds at Kang-chup as they could not return to their place, Thoibi maintained that their names, however, were removed recently without notification.
"Now that our names are removed from the relief camp records, where are we supposed to go for shelter?", she asked.
Thoibi lamented that the removal of their names from relief camp records has left them devastated, compelling them to ask whether they should seek shelter in Government officers' homes or live on the streets.
Visibly sad, Thoibi said that the displaced families would gladly return home if the authorities could guarantee their safety and rebuild their houses.
"Removing our names from the relief camp records is like a death sentence," Thoibi lamented while urging the authorities concerned to look into the matter and let them stay at the relief camps until it is safe for them to return home.
Ningthoujam Maipakpi, another IDP, said that she and many others shifted to the relief camp set up at a private shed at Kangchup as the one at Phayeng High School got overcrowded.
Saying that they have informed Imphal West DC about the removal of their names from the relief camp records, she maintained that no action, however, has been taken up till date to resolve the issue.
Urging the authorities to resolve the crisis and rebuild their houses if they don't want them to stay in relief camps, Maipakpi asked the authorities not to add to their burden.
Is heavy deployment of Central and State security forces at Kangchup areas a sign of peace?, she asked urging the authorities to put their names again in the relief camp records.
