Now ILPS extended to Manipur

With the Union Home Ministry issuing a gazette notification announcing that the Inner Line Permit System has been extended to the State of Manipur, Chief Minister N Biren Singh today announced that ILPS is enforced in the State starting from today.
Making the announcement during a press conference held at Chief Minister's Secretariat today, the CM stated that after the verbal assurance given by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the Parliament on December 9, the extension of Inner Line Permit System in Manipur has been published in the Gazette of India today.
With such publication in the Gazette of India, it is now official that ILPS has been enforced in Manipur with immediate effect, Biren added.

Stating that it is a dream come true for the people of Manipur, the CM said that the implementation of such a law will protect the indigenous people of the State.
He then thanked the Central leaders for taking up such a positive step within a short period of time in the larger interests of the State and its people.
Biren also remembered the tireless efforts of the people, CSOs, Meira Paibis, political parties etc for the implementation of ILPS in Manipur.
Pointing out that CAB will not affect the State now as ILPS has been enforced, he informed that necessary steps will be taken immediately to check the influx of illegal immigrants, at the border areas of the State.
Clarifying on the claims of the JCILPS that there is no base year in the system, Biren explained that the base year will come out during the process of NRC and appealed to the people to be content now that ILPS is in effect in Manipur.
He also expressed desire for starting the necessary NRC process after getting approval from the Centre as soon as the Parliamentary session concludes.
Speaking about the AMSU volunteers who were arrested during the total shutdown yesterday, the Chief Minister said that it will be seen if any violence was involved during their protest and if it is found that they indeed resorted to violence, then FIR will be lodged.
A copy of the publication in the Gazette of India was also distributed during the event.
Minister for Law and Legislative Affairs L Jayantakumar, Minister for Education Th Radheshyam, Deputy Chairman State Planning Board S Rajen , MLA of Sekmai AC H Dingo, MLA of Yaiskul AC Th Satyabrata, MLA of Keirao AC L Rameshwor Meetei and others were present at the press conference.
