Three suspected KNF N cadres slain in shoot out

Three suspected KNF-Nehlun (KNF-N) militants were killed in a reported gun fight with a combined security force at Bongbal Kholen in Senapati district this morning.
Significantly, the KNF-N is not a party to the Suspension of Operations pact with the Government of India and the State Government.
According to a source, the gunfight took place at a hillock located around 2 kms off Bongbal Kholen in Sadar Hills of Senapati district under Yairipok police station today around 8.30 am between a combined force of 21 Para Troops, 15 Assam Rifles and Thoubal Police Commandos and suspected KNF-N militants.
The source said that three militants were killed while the rest made good their escape in the thick jungle.

An M-16 Rifle, one AK-56 rifle, one G-3 rifle and a carbine were recovered from the spot by the security forces after the gunfight.
The security forces were stationed in the area two days back to conduct operations.
All the three bodies were taken to Yairipok PS first.
Meanwhile, a statement issued by the PRO of IGAR (S) said that in a major operation, a joint team of 15 Assam Rifles of HQ 9 Sector Assam Rifles under HQ IGAR (South), 21 PARA (SF) and Thoubal police commandos resulted in neutralising three armed KNF(Nehlun) cadres.
The AR press release said that the combined team while conducting combing operation in Bongbal Khullen area, Senapati district, a hilly and a thickly wooded area, were fired upon at about 6.30 am.
During the ensuing exchange of gun fire the security forces neutralised three suspected KNF (N) cadres, all wearing combat pattern dress.
One M-16 Rifle with 300 live rounds, one AK 47 Rifle with 93 live rounds, one G-3 Rifle with 173 live rounds, four live rounds of 12 Bore Rifle, 34 live rounds of US Carbine, two notebooks containing incriminating details and other war like stores were recovered from their possession.
In the fire fight, one armed cadre was possibly injured however, he managed to escape under the cover of dense jungle.
After the operation, the police carried out their investigation and recorded the statements.
The bodies have been brought to JNIMS for post mortem it said.
NNN adds : The three militants were killed in the shoot out at a place which is under Yairipok police station and is located about 10 kms north east of Nongpok Keithelmanbi.
After the shoot out, the combined security team conducted a search operation in the nearby houses, but there is no report of any arrest.
Yairipok police have retrieved the bodies and sent them to JNIMS for post mortem.
