Stating that efforts to hold dialogue between the warring communities will not be easy as the trust between them had already broken down, Rami Niranjan Desai maintained that the first step towards this would be holding dialogue between the two parties on the table.
She also said that individual responsibility and accountability of the people in this regard is very important besides that of the State Government.
While maintaining that the way ahead for Manipur is difficult and long at this point of time, the author however maintained that there are means to come out with logical solutions and some sort of ideas which are common to both the conflicting parties.
"The way forward is a complex question.
But since the stakeholders of the State are standing together, it is not complex to me as they know the solution and the future and the generations that should be" she added.
Saying that she has been meeting people and representations from both the conflicting communities in the State and holding dialogues, Rami Niranjan Desai asserted that there are certain misconceptions among the communities, which include the general consideration that they have lost their narratives.
She said that the rest of the country knows much more about Manipur now than ever before, including the issue of infiltration from Myanmar and other troubled regions, its impacts and realization about the demographic change.
Continuing that there is also a misconception about the country being ignorant about Manipur, Rami Niranjan Desai said that the country talks so much about the situation in the State in addition to the National media taking much more interest on the issues of Manipur.
She also said that India has realized the importance and the strategic values of Manipur not just to the North East but also to the future of this country.
The author added that the State is not just the gateway to Southeast Asia but also the golden gateway for India's future ambitions through the East and West.
While talking about the territorial integrity of Manipur, Rami Niranjan Desai stressed on the importance of maintaining the territorial integrity of Manipur for the sake of the goodness of both the State and the country.
Emphasizing on the diversity and inclusiveness, the author pointed out that the said values also have its limitations as they have to follow certain rules and regulations.
She added that diversity and inclusiveness cannot take the shape which will suit everyone without the rule of law.
Retired Commissioner of YAS RK Nimai, Kshetrigao A/C MLA Sheikh Noorul Hassan, social activist Ashang Kasar and Manipur University Teachers' Association president Professor Irom Ghambir also attended the session as the moderator and panellists.
Another session on the theme "Manipur violence, a ground reality" was also held later on the day.
Former HoD, Philosophy Department, MU Dr P Milan Khangamcha was the moderator while Human rights activist Babloo Loitongbam and leaders of different civil society organisations including AMUCO, COCOMI, FOCS and UNC also took part in the session as panellists.
