Imphal, April 09 2019:
Condemning the decision to pass the Citizenship Amendment Bill if it comes to power in the BJP election manifesto, the Manipur People Against Citizenship Amendment Bill (MANPAC) has announced that its stand and opposition against the CAB is still the same and will remain so.
Speaking to media persons at Keishampat Konjeng Hazari Leikai today, MANPAC convenor Yumnamcha Dilipkumar said that just recently, the people of Manipur and the entire North East, had revolted against the CAB and even today, the people have not forgotten the protests, agitation and other violence which followed the issue.

He then conveyed that any proposal or assurance to include a specific clause in the CAB is simply out of the question and made it clear that the CAB cannot be passed in any way.
The stand taken by MANPAC against CAB was reinforced and resolved at a higher level following the North East People's Conference 2019 and the eventual formation of the North East Forum for Indigenous People (NEFIP) .
However, at such a critical juncture, the BJP's decision to include implementation of CAB in its manifesto, is a blatant disregard of the struggle and sentiments of the people, he said, adding that MANPAC and the people of the entire North East will vehemently oppose the CAB.
On the other hand, Dilipkumar also asked the Congress party to clarify clearly about the year, community etc while enforcing the NRC if it is indeed implemented as promised by the party in its manifesto.
He then reasoned that for Manipur, the basis of the NRC should be the 1951 census.
Dilipkumar continued that MANPAC will observe all political parties when it comes to the organisation's (MANPAC) objective of protecting the indigenous people and appealed to the people to stand in unity against the CAB as well.
