CM-led team leaves for Delhi, COCOMI sit-ins continue unabated

Imphal, November 08 2019: A team of the State Government led by Chief Minister N Biren left Imphal for New Delhi today to hold a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the Naga peace talks and its possible ramifications on Manipur.

The team includes Works Minister Th Biswajit, Education Minister Th Radheshyam and Speaker Y Khemchand.

Lok Sabha MP RK Ranjan and Rajya Sabha MP K Bhabananda would join them at Delhi.

It is said that the team led by N Biren will hold meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Union Minister Amit Shah and other Central leaders.

On the other hand a series of alert sit in protests and other forms of agitation were organised under the aegis of COCOMI at different parts of the State today as well, condemning the non-disclosure of the agreement reached between the Central Government and NSCN-IM and demanding against any impact on the State as a result of the same.

Coordinating Body Khurai in collaboration with Moirangkampu Sajeb Makha Leikai Nupi Lup, Top Khunou Meira Paibi and Moirangkampu Nupi Thoudang Lup, staged an alert sit in protest at Top Khewa Thongkhong.

A human chain was also formed at Moirangkampu bridge where the people shouted slogans like 'Long live Manipur', 'No one can harm the integrity of Manipur', 'Government of India and NSCN (IM) do not try to destroy Manipur' etc.

Manipur Central Youth Club Keishampat along with Keishampat Keisham Leikai Meira Paibi also staged an alert sit in protest at Keishampat Keisham Leikai community hall today.

Speaking to media persons, a member of Keishampat Keisham Leikai Meira Paibi, Keisham Kumudini, said that the people of Manipur cannot afford to lose any part of the State as a result of the final agreement between the Government of India and NSCN-IM.

The existing MLAs and MPs of Manipur should neither hold back nor stop pressuring the Central leaders so that the State's integrity is protected.

Maintaining that the people of Manipur did not impose any kind of hindrance to the neighbouring States or communities till date, she stated that the Government should respect the sentiments of the people.

On the other hand, Leimarol (an organisation for married women singers) also staged an alert sit in protest in front of Lamyanba Shanglen, Palace Compound.

One of the members stated that the present state of the Indo-Naga peace talks has created immense difficulties, fear and apprehension among the people.

Maintaining that Manipur should not be divided in any way, she added that Leimarol will continue to extend solidarity to COCOMI.

Similar demonstrations were also held at Yumnam Leikai, Brighter Academy (Checkon), Kongba Keithel, Langjing Achouba, Kakyai and Sugnu.
