Heirok HSS rallies against shortage of teachers

Even as the State Government has announced that the rationalisation process of teachers posting would be completed by next month (October), students of the Heirok Higher Secondary School took out a rally protesting the shortage of teachers today.
Reportedly, about 1200 students are enrolled at Heirok Higher Secondary School (Class VI to XII) but the school only has 40 teachers.
Frustrated over the frequent suspension of classes due to non availability of teachers, students of Heirok Higher Secondary School at first protested inside their campus before taking out a protest march upto Heirok Keithel.
During the rally, the students used placards which read "No Education Without Teacher", "No Teacher No Future " etc and raised slogans.

Notably, issues of shortage of teachers at Government schools have become a hot topic since the past few days and many have cast doubt on the effectiveness of the School Fagathansi Mission which was launched to improve the functioning of Government schools.
In response to the growing demand to post adequate teachers at several Government schools, Education Minister Th Basanta Kumar had admitted that there indeed is lack of infrastructure and manpower at some Government schools and rectifying it will take time.
Speaking to media persons, Abujam Lenin, a Class XII student of the school said that Heirok Higher Secondary School needs about 90 teachers to conduct classes efficiently but the school currently has only about 40 teachers.
Saying that about 16 teachers were transferred from the school while another eight teachers have retired recently with replacement sent till date, the student asked how classes will be conducted without teachers.
One of the guardians said that almost all the students enrolled at the Government schools are from low socioeconomic backgrounds who could not afford the fees of private schools.
He said that the guardians are very disappointed with the working of the Government schools as they want their children to get proper education too and appealed to the Government to send sufficient number of teaching staff to the school.
It is reported that the Heirok Higher Secondary School produced the maximum HSLC passed students among the Government schools in Thoubal district in 2022 .
