The COVID-19 death toll has touched 39 in the State today and the latest victim is a 48-year old man from Thoubal district.
According to RIMS Medical Superintendent Prof Ch Arunkumar, the 48-year old man who had been undergoing treatment at RIMS passed away at around 7.30 pm yesterday.
Apart from being infected by COVID-19, the man was also suffering from hypertension, diabetes and pneumonia.
So far, COVID-19 and other co-morbid health conditions have claimed 39 lives including 11 from Thoubal district.
Informing that two individuals who went home from RIMS after recovery from COVID-19 had died, Prof Arunkumar highlighted the need for authorities concerned to pay attention to the health conditions of people who have gone back from hospitals and COVID Care Centres after recovery from COVID-19 and the preventive measures they must take to avoid re-infection.
If the heart of any individual had been badly damaged when he/she was infected by COVID-19, the individual would be rendered highly vulnerable to diseases like pneumonia and it can lead to critical health conditions, Prof Arunkumar said while underscoring the importance of taking all preventive post COVID-19 treatment.
A press release issued by Additional Director (Health) and COVID-19 Common Control Room spokesman Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang said that 96 people including two CAPF personnel were tested positive for COVID-19 during the last 24 hours at JNIMS, RIMS, Raj Medicity, Jiribam, Churachandpur, Bishnupur, Mothers Care, Chandel, Tamenglong, Jivan Hospital, Babina Diagnostic Centre, Imphal East and Thoubal.
The positive people belong to Imphal West (21), Imphal East (27), Thoubal (17), Bishnupur (14), Kakching (2), Jiribam (5), Noney (1), Chandel (1), Tamenglong (1), Ukhrul (2) and Churachandpur (3) .
Of the 94 civilians, 89 have no history of travelling outside the State.
Following recovery, 126 COVID-19 patients have been discharged during the last 24 hours from CCC Lamboi Khongnangkhong (62), UNACCO (16), JNIMS (9), RD Wing (13) and CAPF (24).The cumulative figure for COVID-19 positive cases in the State is 7202 (general population 5489, Central security personnel 1713) .
It includes 1679 active cases (general population 1175, Central security personnel 504) and 5484 discharged cases (general population 4277, Central security personnel 1207).Meanwhile, information received from Imphal West district administration said that 36 fresh cases of COVID-19 were detected in the State today.
The fresh positive cases include five people staying at the quarters of ex-Chief Minister Okram Ibobi, 10 are railway construction workers staying near Saheibung and three residents of Sagolband Mabudhou Mantri Leikai.
Further, 13 samples out of 531 samples tested today at JNIMS were found infected by the virus.
Another individual was also tested positive at Jiribam.
