Imphal, April 07 2019:
Stating that the North East region has become the prime focus of New India's Act East Policy, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has claimed that the region has also made rapid strides in recent years.
He made the claim during an election campaign meeting held at Hapta Kangjeibung today evening in connection with the 17th Lok Sabha election.
Greeting the people and wishing them on the occasion of Cheiraoba in Manipuri dialect, the Prime Minister claimed that today, he is able to realise the sentiments of the people of Manipur and the people of the North East in general after coming to Imphal today.
Modi also paid respect to the brave martyrs and freedom fighters of Manipur and sought forgiveness from the people present in the gathering for arriving late.
The PM conveyed that the North East region is making great strides when it comes to connectivity and cases of blockades, bandhs and other violence in Manipur as well as the North East, are at an all time low.
All these are the results of the love and support from the people of Manipur and the North East States, he added.

Modi then stated that the love and support from the people, are his source of strength as a chowkidar of the people and added that this has made 'Sabke Sath Sabke Vikash' more relevant thus making the country more known and regarded highly in the world.
He claimed that the BJP led NDA Government is the first ever Government to get unhindered support from all sections of the people.
When the people have any complaints, they now know who to scold and that is the Opposition party, he added.
Stating that the people's love and support for the BJP led NDA Government is due to its honest endeavour to serve the people, Narendra Modi said that the Congress party and its allies are now facing the brunt of all the misdeeds they did in the past.
Lashing out at the Congress party, Modi alleged that the party even tried to compromise the country's integrity and security.
The Congress party has been adamantly demanding proof of the air strikes carried out inside Pakistan territory, which is a first in the history of the country, Modi said adding that the Congress party has been making baseless accusations and demands based on the lies spewed by Pakistan.
Pointing out that he heard about Congress leaders promising to transform Manipur into a manufacturing hub, the Prime Minister asked what manufacturing unit did the Congress party establish when it was holding power for such a long time in the past.
The Congress is a master of lies, he added.
He continued that if the Congress truly cares about the North East region, the party could have linked the region via railways and there would not have been any need for him to come to the region and initiate the construction of highways and take up other developmental projects.
Asking if the Congress did anything for the talented sportspersons of the State, Modi said that the BJP established NSU in the State and is currently working towards transforming Manipur into a sporting hub.
He said that CM Biren is a footballer himself and urged the people to give a red card to the Congress party which has always fouled in the past.
The Congress leaders will come and begin showing their faces in the NE region only during election.
They will be gone after the election, the PM added.
Reminding that under his Government many beneficial schemes were introduced in Manipur for the people, Modi said that what the BJP did, the Congress can also do but they are full of corruption and deceit and appealed to the people to vote for BJP in the coming election.
It may be mentioned that the Prime Minister came to Imphal Airport via a special flight from Tripura.
He then went via helicopter till Kangla from where he reached Hapta Kangjeibung to take part in the meeting which was organised under the theme 'Modi Once Again'.
As soon as Modi reached the venue, the large gathering raised various slogans and the PM was received with garlands by CM N Biren, Works Minister Th Biswajit, MP K Bhabananda and Inner candidate Dr RK Ranjan as well as Outer candidate Benjamin Mate.
CM Biren also presented a Manipuri turban (kokyet) to Narendra Modi.
Speaking at the event, Biren said that the event has been organised with the main objective of ensuring the return of Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister.
There has been no other Prime Minister as resolute and as game changing as Modi, he said, appealing to the people to vote for BJP in the coming election.
On the other hand, he also apologised for the inconvenience caused to the people due to lack of space and provision at the venue.
