48 hours bandh comes to an end 12 cops hurt in bandh violence

Imphal, August 06 2015:
Even as the 48 hours bandh called by the students wing of the JCILPS drew to a close today at 6 pm today, more than 12 police personnel including the DSP (Ops) of Imphal West police, SDPO of Imphal police and the Officer-in-Charge of Singjamei police station received injuries when they were targeted by bandh enforcers today at different places.
The DSP (Ops) of Imphal West has been identified as Sachidananda while the SDPO has been named as Ghanashyam Sharma.
The OC is identified as N Ingocha.
The DSP had his right hand fractured in a clash with the bandh supporters.
Three vehicles of the police were also damaged in attacks by bandh supporters.
Eleven police personnel including MR and IRB personnel were over powered by angry protesters at Singjamei Yumnam Leikai area at around 3.30 pm.

The incident occured when police personnel came under heavy attack from different directions when they were near Yumnam Leikai area after which the security personnel sneaked into a house located in Yumnam Leikai area, after which they were over powered.
The elders and the women folk of the area prevented the incensed youth from assaulting the security personnel and handed them over to the additional police force which arrived at the spot soon after.
Trouble started near Imo Filling Station when a police team led by Singjamei police Inspector N Ingocha rushed there on receiving inputs that women folk had formed a human chain and were raising slogans demanding implementation of Inner Line Permit System in the State as well as to condemn the killing of Sapam Robinhood in police action on July 8 .
When the police team rushed in to disperse the crowd, they were greeted by a volley of stones.
In the melee that followed, the windshield and glass of the OC's vehicle were damaged.
The OC's vehicle was later over powered by the crowd.
Later the OC and the vehicle were rescued by a police team led by the SDPO of Singjamei police from the spot.
The OC sustained injuries on the right hand.
The SDPO of Imphal police also received injuries during a stand off with protesters at Uripok.
The police officer identified as Ghanashyam Sharma sustained injuries when he was hit by a sling shot on the face.
One IRB personnel was also reportedly over powered by the protesters and police had to open several rounds of gun fire in the air to rescue him.
In the melee that followed one protester was hurt and he had to be rushed to RIMS for treatment.
Protest continued at other parts of Imphal on the second day of the bandh.
A large number of women protesters formed a human chain from Singjamei Keithel to Canchipur road and tried to take out a protest rally towards Singjamei police station after which police fired several rounds of tear gas shells to disperse them.
A confrontation ensued as the protesters threw stones and used sling shots while police retaliated with tear gas and smoke bombs.
ILPS supporters also formed a human chain along Liwa road but there is no report of any untoward incident.
