Imphal, December 04 2024:
Speaking out his mind on the ongoing ethnic violence that has gripped Manipur since the evening of May 3, 2023, Keishamthong AC MLA Nishikant Singh Sapam said, 'there seems to be no end to this blood soaked madness and it has been like this for 19 months and 2 days' .
'Manipur has been fragmented', said the MLA and added 'Even if there is periodic calm the eeriness is so overwhelmingly conspicuous that it absolutely makes the common man feel as insecure as ever' .
There has been complete lawlessness, added the MLA.
'More than 260 people have died in the violence and the actual figures could be much more.
More than 60,000 people have been displaced.
Lives and properties lost.
Women raped.
Babies killed.
Innocents burnt and killed.
Many Manipuris have been forced to flee to ensure the safety of their loved ones.
Do we really deserve this?' he asked.
'The Government is like a bus which has the MLAs seated at the back with the Council of Ministers seated in front and the HCM in the driving seat,' said the MLA and elaborated, 'Even before the 3rd of May 2023 and during peace time MLAs like me were never consulted or included in HCM's scheme of things, every thing remained restricted to himself and a few around him'.
Going further, the MLA said, 'The worst part is that despite all the meetings we (MLAs, the Ministers and HCM) have had and all these months of mayhem the leadership does not yet seem to have a roadmap....NO SOLUTION...very worrying....where do we go from here ?' .
Giving his mind, the MLA said, 'A true Leader is one who has a roadmap....Who always has a solution for any and every problem...loves Manipur....puts Manipur above all, be it any organisation or organisations, any persons or any one person (however great they may be including himself) .
A true leader is one who gives credit to his team and accepts responsibility for any failure' .
The need of the hour is true leadership, said Nishikant.
'Who can save Manipur from fragmenting...keep Manipur intact.
Bring everyone together.
Bring an end to this madness and Lawlessness.
Bring peace and ensure to keep away infiltrators by carrying out NRC sincerely.' he added.
'Rule of law must prevail ensuring the safety and progress of Manipur.
We must leave a peaceful and prosperous Manipur for our future generations.
With all the sincerity in my heart and my love for Manipur does not allow me to stay silent anymore' the MLA declared and added 'It's time to call a spade a spade.
Lets save Manipur.
Manipur must and shall always remain intact like ever before and forever' .
