Imphal, December 02 2024:
The present Manipur crisis is a "creation" of the BJP Government at the Centre led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the State Government, and a result of their failure to maintain law and order, said Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president MLA K Meghachandra today.
The "double engine Government" has failed to maintain law and order in the State, and this is a fact that has been admitted and understood by BJP MLAs, their Ministers and functionaries, Meghachandra said in a statement he released to the media.
The MPCC president asserted that this breakdown of law and order has been admitted by the Chief Minister himself.
Meghachandra said the Chief Minister was speaking at an event held at the South Block of the Secretariat on May 21, 2023 to observe Anti-Terrorism Day when he admitted to law and order failure.
He said the Chief Minister described "what happened on May 3, 2023 as a failure of the law and order and intelligence lapses".
This admission of the Chief Minister was expounded and confirmed when then Union Minister of State for External Affairs, RK Ranjan in June 2023 stated that "the law and order situation in Manipur is a total failure," and pointed at a "failing State mechanism", Meghachandra said.
The MPCC president further quoted N Biren Singh admitting to "his fault for not controlling the crisis" in an interview with a news channel on June 20, 2023 .
Further, Meghachandra said, on August 1, 2023, the Supreme Court observed that there was an absolute breakdown of Constitutional machinery in the State.
While the crisis is a result of failure of the Centre and the State Government, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hasn't visited Manipur once after May 3, 2023, Meghachandra said.
He said, former Governor Anusuiya Uikey has recently said that she doesn't know why the Prime Minister has not visited Manipur.
Even as the Prime Minister has ignored the Manipur situation, Meghachandra hinted that there is division within the BJP MLAs and Ministers, and a section of them "want a new leader" other than N Biren Singh.
"How long will the people of Manipur continue to suffer? When will PM Modi visit Manipur? When will peace be restored in Manipur under this Double Engine Govt?" Meghachandra asked, asserting that the "failed achievements" of the Centre and the State have caused "bloodshed" in the State.
