Imphal, September 02 2024: Barely 24 hours after a woman was killed and her daughter was injured in a targeted terror attack carried out by Kuki militants using drones, massive aerial and ground attacks continued to pound several Meitei settlements injuring at least three persons including a woman today.

The woman, injured in an explosion, has been identified as Watham Sanatombi (23), daughter of Gambhi of Senjam Chirang Maning.

Her brother W Sanatomba (20) was also injured in the aerial pounding from the Kuki militants.

The attack at Senjam Chirang came at around 6.20 pm.

Suffering splinter injury on her belly, Sanatombi was first rushed to Raj Medicity and then to Shija Hospital for treatment.

Today, Kuki militants launched multiple attacks on Meitei villages of Koutruk, Kadangband, Sinam, Sabungkhok Khunou, Thamnapokpi, Shantikhong-bal and Senjam Chirang.

These settlements came under heavy aerial bombing using drones and indiscriminate firing.

The weaponised drones first pounded the settlements with explosives followed by heavy indiscriminate firing.

In one of the attacks, Kuki militants destroyed three bunkers and looted arms and ammunition from a security post located at Maikhan.

Notably, the attacks today came after massive aerial and ground attacks killed Angom Surbala, a 35-year-old married woman who was visiting her parents at Koutruk yesterday.

While the woman was killed, her minor daughter was also injured in the attack.

The attacks yesterday injured several persons including women and personnel of the State security force.

The Kuki militants also burnt at least 5 houses and 6 vehicles of the Public Works Department at Koutruk Ching Leikai.

At midnight today, Kuki militants came down from the nearby hill ranges of Sabungkhok Khunou, Thamnapokpi and Shantikhongbal and started bombarding.

The midnight attack injured one civilian who was evacuated to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The person is said to be in a stable condition.

Soon after the attack, personnel of the State force and BSF retaliated and fired at Kuki militants who were advancing toward Meitei village with indiscriminate firing.

The heavy gunfight continued till 1.30 am before the Kuki militants fled toward the hills.

In another coordinated attack in the early morning at around 4, Kuki militants destroyed three bunkers of the security forces at Maikhan and Sinam village and looted three arms and ammunition.

The Kuki militants occupying Mark Hill carried out aerial bombing and fired indiscriminately at the Maikhan security post and Sinam village.

When explosive shells were fired at the security posts, the militants deployed armed drones and dropped a barrage of bombs amid indiscriminate firing.

The Kuki militants came down and stormed the Maikhan security post and looted one AK Rifle, one Insas LMG, one Insas Rifle and ammunition.

The exchange of fire between the security forces and Kuki militants lasted till 7 am.

The militants fled towards Mark Hill.

Additional security forces rushed to the spot and "recaptured" the security posts.

The bunkers have been rebuilt, said sources.

There were no injuries on the side of the security forces in the attack.

The situation in the area remains tense.

Security forces are on high alert.

At Koutruk and Kadangban, Kuki militants continued aerial bombing today at around 2.30 pm.

The Kuki militants dropped at least 10 bombs from drones in the area.

There were no casualties in the attack.

Security personnel are on high alert in the area.
