PM convenes meet to discuss incomplete projects in Manipur on June 4

Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh has convened a meeting at New Delhi on June 4 to discuss issues related to completion of the various pending projects being undertaken in Manipur.
During the meeting, which will also be attended by various Union Ministers, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh will be seeking the assistance of the Prime Minister to tide over the financial difficulty that the State has been facing after the implementation of Central 6th Pay recommendations to the State Government employees.
Disclosing this to The Sangai Express, an official source informed that the proposed meeting on June 4 will discuss issues related to early completion of various pending projects being taken up in Manipur including those that the Prime Minister had announced during his visit to the State in 2004 and 2006 .
Construction of railways from Jiribam to Imphal, Mini Secretariats, Dolaithabi Project, Tipaimukh dam, JINMS, Capitol Project and connection of water pipeline from Maphou dam to Imphal for water supply are among some of the projects that the Prime Minister had announced in the State.

To be chaired by the Prime Minister himself, the meeting will be attended among others by various Union Ministers concerned, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh and Deputy Chairman of the Planning Commission for a thorough discussion on ensuring early completion of various pending projects in Manipur.
Apart from raising issues related to these projects, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh will urge for Central assistance to tide over the financial difficulties being faced by the State following the burden of an additional Rs 80 crores every month after the recommendations of Central 6th Pay Commission were implemented for the employees under the Government of Manipur, the source disclosed.
In this regard, the Chief Minister will also remind the Prime Minister of the earlier request made to the Union Finance Minister for providing a sum of Rs 300 crores from the Special Plan Assistance in advance during the meeting, the source added.
It may be recalled here that with regard to the project of laying a pipeline from Maphou dam to Imphal for supplying 45 MLD of water, the Union Home Minister as well as the Union Ministry of External Affairs have already given their respective approval but the Union Planning Commission has placed certain issues before the State Government.
Meanwhile, Secretary of DoNER Jayatichandra is expected to arrive here leading an official team on two-day visit from June 6 to 7 to take a first hand account on the progress of the projects being taken up under Non-Lapsable Central Pool of Resources.
