Rape of TG girl: Accused charge-sheeted

Imphal, February 01 2013: The Lamphel Police have framed a charge-sheet against the two accused in the rape of a student of TG Higher Secondary School on October 20, 2012 last after offering a drink laced with sedative in a restaurant at Changangei Uchekon along Imphal Airport road.

According to report received by Hueiyen Lanpao, the charge-sheet was framed against the two accused namely Yumnam William (28) of Khagempalli and Thongam Tarun (27) of Thangmeiband Sinam Leikai, after Lamphel Police under the initiative of its SDPO investigated into the case.

Yumnam William is a rifleman in Manipur Police Commando but presently under suspension while Thongam Tarun is a Manipuri digital film actor.

Following the charge-sheet, the Court of the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West, has registered a criminal case against the accused duo and fixed next hearing of the case on February 5 .

It may be noted here that after taking up an FIR case under Section 366/376/34 of IPC, Lamphel Police started an investigation into the case of raping the student of TG Higher Secondary School.

During the course of the investigation, the police found out that accused persons namely Yumnam William and Thongam Tarun took the victim to Tampha Fast Food Restaurant located at Changangei Ucheckon along Imphal Airport Road where they forced her to drink White Magic, laced with sedative and raped her continuously by both.

The police investigation report revealed that the victim fell unconscious as a result of the intake of the intoxicant.

When she regained consciousness she found herself being raped by William.

On seeing that, she again fell unconscious and when she regained consciousness, she saw Thongam Tarun raping her again.

After committing the crime, Tarun, who apparently recorded the whole scene on his mobile phone, also threatened the victim to make public the incident via internet if she talks to anyone about it.

From the restaurant, the two accused took the victim to Soibam Leikai and handed her to one Premlata Devi after giving the victim some lemon juice.

On further investigating by the police, Oinam Bimolchand, the owner of the restaurant, revealed that Tarun was involved in the rape case.

Tarun even called him up the following day of the crime and asked him to dispose off the condoms used by them in the act but left inside the cabin of the restaurant since the victim's family had filed a case against them. It may be recalled here that following the rape incident, various social organizations have launched an intense agitation demanding arrest of the persons involved and for giving befitting punishment.

Memorandums were also submitted to the Home Minister.

The agitation subsided after the Home Minister assured justice to the victim.
