COVID-19 continues to strike hard
2 more die as State sees record 421 recoveries

Even as the State saw a record recovery of 421 COVID-19 patients in the last 24 hours, two more succumbed to the virus at Shija Hospital taking the death tally to 67 .
The death of two other patients from Churachandpur is yet to be counted in the death tally of COVID-19 .
According to a statement of the Additional Director of Health Department and spokesperson Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar, the deceased include a 41 year old man from Thoubal and a 58 year old man from Imphal West district.
The statement said that the person from Thoubal who also had a liver ailment as co-morbidity died late on September 28 night while the person from Imphal West died this morning and had kidney problem as per the record of Shija Hospital.
The statement further said that 206 persons (121 male, 85 female) from the general population and 31 personnel from the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours.
They were tested positive at RIMS, JNIMS, various private hospitals in Imphal East and West and testing facilities set up across other districts, it said.
Of the total 206 persons among the general population, 60 belong to Imphal West, 61 to Imphal East, 4 each to Bishnupur and Senapati, 5 each to Churachandpur and Jiribam, 3 to Tengnoupal, 19 to Thoubal, 12 to Tamenglong, 23 to Noney and 10 to Chandel.
Of these cases, 1 from Churachandpur, 3 from Thoubal, 2 from Senapati and 1 from Imphal East are returnees from other States while the rest have no significant history of travelling outside the State, it said while adding that the COVID-19 positive persons have been shifted to COVID Care facilities and due medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing have been initiated.
In the meantime, the State saw an impressive record of 421 persons being discharged in the last 24 hours including 261 who were on home isolation.
Others were discharged from CAPF (10), RIMS (6), RD Wing (3), CCC Lamding Thoubal (16), UNACCO (18), CCC Lamboikhongnangkhong (67), Tamenglong (22), Moreh (2), TK Ukhrul (3), Kangpokpi (4) and PR Kakching (9) after they were found COVID-19 free on RTPCR test, it said.
The cumulative number of positive cases is now 10983 of which 8684 belong to the general population while 2299 are Central security personnel, it said and added that in all 8460 persons (6705-general population and 1755-Central security personnel) have so far recovered.
The number of active cases is 2456 of which 1915 belong to the general population and 541 belong to Central security personnel.
The recovery rate is 77.02 pc, it continued.
A late report on the other hand, said that 84 persons were tested positive for the virus out of the total 661 samples tested at JNIMS today.
