Imphal, March 31 2024:
Shedding all political differences, INDIA Bloc is fielding common candidates for the Inner and Outer Manipur Parliamentary elections to defeat the BJP, said former Chief Minister Okram Ibobi.
He said this speaking to media persons during a press meet at Irabot Bhavan Imphal today.
The former CM and the CLP leader said BJP's defeat in the elections would save Manipur as well as India.
INDIA Bloc is fielding Dr Angomcha Bimol Akoijam in Inner Parliamentary Constituency and Alfred Kangam Arthur in Outer Parliamentary Constituency.
Appealing to the people to support INDIA Bloc's candidates, O Ibobi said that BJP must be defeated to save Manipur, India's Constitution, democracy and secularism.
Manipur's current issue is a National issue and it has not been resolved even after months.
Since May 3, 2023, more than 60,000 people have been displaced and are taking shelter in relief camps.
BJP must be defeated to save Manipur, he added.
Veteran CPI leader and former Minister Dr M Nara also sought people's support to INDIA Bloc's candidates.
Former CPI State secretary L Sotinkumar said "Save Manipur, Save India and Defeat BJP" must be the mantra for all in the coming Lok Sabha elections.
BJP has "killed" democracy in India and is running the country in a "dictatorial" manner so much so that Delhi's Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has been put in jail by framing many charges.
The BJP, he said, is trying to abolish all other parties.
The party has the maximum share of the electoral bonds, he added.
The BJP-led State Government, on the other hand, has failed to bring normalcy and resolve the nearly 11-month-old crisis.
The party has also failed to raise its voice on the Manipur issue in the Parliament, he said.
CPI State secretary L Thoiren said INDIA Bloc is launching "Save Manipur, Save Humanity" campaign.
"INDIA Bloc's sole purpose is to save Manipur by defeating the BJP," he said.
Notably, BJP which is ruling both at the Centre and in the State has decided not to field any candidate in Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency.
Instead, it has decided to support NPF candidate Kachui Timothy Zimik.
Nonetheless, BJP is putting up incumbent Education Minister Thounaojam Basanta Kumar as its candidate in Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency.
