Mary Kom inspires youths to dream big in sports

An ace boxer MC Mary Kom on Friday inspired the youths in Ukhrul to take up sports as a career and urged them to dream big to find a niche at national and international arena.
On Friday at Ukhrul's Pakshi sports stadium, the champion pugilist MC Mary Kom inaugurated the maiden edition of Araang League as chief guest with deputy commissioner Modak Hrisheekesh Arvind as guest of honour.
In her address as the chief guest of the football tourney, Mary Kom said that the youths should put in more interest in sports apart from education, while adding the tribals are reluctant to take up sports as a serious career and look at it as leisure activities.
The five time world champion and known by a sobriquet, "Magnificent Mary", inspired the sports lovers and her fans in Ukhrul by relating her story and her struggle to become an ace boxer.
"Our youths should dream big in sports to compete at national and international level," she said.
Urging the youths in the state to join her sports academy, Mary Kom shared an advice that one should maintain a good health to endure consistent physical exercise.
She also made financial contribution towards the football tournament.
Hrisheekesh lauded the world champion for her serious concern for the youths in the district and felt that her attendance in the Araang League would inspired and attract more people towards sporting activities.
In the inaugural play-off match, the Tangkhul Naga Valley Student's Association (TNVSA) team locked horns with Manipur Police, but the game ended in a goalless tie.
