GSC, YUFC script home wins in 23rd Winners' Cup

GSC, Churachandpur and Yarkhok United FC, Ukhrul shone were able to register wins in their home matches today in the ongoing 23rd Thangjam Birachandra-Maipakpi Memorial Winners' Cup for Men 2019 organised by All Manipur Football Association.
GSC sealed a huge 4-1 win against KDC, Chandel today at Public Ground, Churachandpur to enhance their semi-final hope.
G Lalringthuwang was the highlight of the day as he scored twice, one each one the either side of the break while Paokhongam Haoikip and Boigen Neihsial netted one goal each to ensure the 4-1 win for GSC in front of their home crowd.
GSC got the lead early in the 6th minute through G Lalringthuwang and Paokhongam Haokip banged in the second goal five minutes later to hand GSC a 2-0 first half lead.
KDC which saw off AMOFA, Moirang were kept on toes for a major portion of the game but the home side but managed to pull back a goal in the 58th minute of the match making it 1-2 when Toluum Thangtitlen found the back of the net.
They however failed to sustained their attack for a longer period and G Lalrinthuwang was at it again as he fetch his second in the 62nd minute to send GSC clear ahead with a 3-1 lead.
KDC tried hard to mount a comeback in the remaining part of the game while keeping their citadel intact but it were the home side which took control of the game in the dying minutes and eventually got the finisher off Boigen Neihsial feet during the stoppage time.
Crispin Kamson (84') of GSC; Thangtilen (29') and MK Salemthang (61') of KDC were yellow carded for their unsporting behaviours.
Elsewhere, Yarkhok United FC (YUFC) earned a hard fought 2-1 win against SFC, Senapati at TNL ground, Ukhrul.
YUFC had the most of the possession and attempts in the earlier proceedings and managed to lead the first half thanks to a goal by Khangatar Tungshangnao in the 30th minute.
The two sides exchanged a series of runs after the restart as YUFC looked to extend their lead and SFC toil hard for the equaliser.
SFC, Senapati however proved to be the luckier side as they drew level in the 63rd minute through Nithong Megh.
It was an end to end affair after the equaliser and the game almost ended in a 1-1 draw but Wungramchan PS came to YUFC's rescue firing in the most anticipated winner during the additional time (90'+3') for a 2-1 lead.
YUFC's Sh Ragui (44'), Benison RS (64') and SFC's Yhunshalo Kent (90'+3') were yellow carded by the referee.
YUFC will visit Senapati FC on March 25 .
