SSPP's Platinum Jubilee Football Tournament begins

Gracing the inaugural function of the Siamsinpawlpi (SSPP) Platinum Jubilee Football Tournament held at Lamka Public ground on Tuesday as chief guest, Manipur DGP LM Khaute stressed the need to improve sports infrastructure in Churachandpur district.
While noting the SSPP's love for sports, LM Khaute said that the student body's pioneering works for education and learning among the people throughout its 75 years of existence is really worth recognition as he recalled the names of officers from SSPP like TC Tiankham, (L)Jelshyam, IAS, former chief secretary of Manipur, Haukhum Hauzel, IAS, former chief secretary of Mizoram, Chinkhenrhang, IAS, Thangthuam, IPS, V Dongzathang, IRS, besides politicians (L) Phungzathang Tonsing, V Hangkhanlian and V Vungzagin.
Terming them as role models, the DGP said that 75 years are no short period but one whole generation during which a lot of efforts had been involved, with many ups and downs to keep the organisation stable and worthy of serving its purposes even to this day without a break.
Noting the importance of the playground, Khaute said, "This is one of the most important playgrounds and it is here that major football tournaments are held".
He said, "We speak various languages which are not so vastly different and this is an occasion where we all meet and interact while witnessing the match".
LM Khaute called for the need to improve sports infrastructure in the district while stating that the standard of sports in the state of Manipur is high which means Indian sports standards are high as well.
He urged the SSPP to play a lead role in development of the district in all spheres besides education.
The DGP also said that youngsters of the district should be groomed with the policy of "catch them young" to tap the talent pool.
The programme was also attended Hiangtam Lamka chief G Thangkhosuanmung as guest of honour.
Altogether 20 teams are vying for a cash award of Rs 3 lakh for the winners as runners-up will get Rs 1 lakh.
