ESU Team B, Wangkhei beat AMMA, Andro 2-1 to lift the trophy of the Beti Padhao, Beti Bachao (State Level 7 A-side U-17 Girls) Football Tournament 2019 organised by Imphal East District Administration at Chumthang Sannapung, Langthabal today.
The final match saw both the teams playing even but ESU were able to convert more chances into goals to end the match in their favour.
It may be noted that the tournament was organised to encourage sports among girls and empower women by raising awareness about the BBBP scheme.
Speaking as chief guest of the day, Revenue Minister Karam Shyam said, "Even though the women of Manipur are now moving forward in all spheres including education, sports and administration, there is still less participation of them in political sphere".
He said that women should be encouraged to participate more in politics and governance to bring about inclusive development.
Commenting on the Beti Bachao Beti padhao Scheme, Karam Shyam recalled that 'abortion was common in the country in the past when a girl child was expected.' Women were deprived of their rights and victims of dowry system, he said.
He lauded the vision of Prime Minister Modi to educate girl child and empower them and said that "we should encourage women morally, physically and financially".
Forest and Environment Minister Th Shyamkumar, who attended the day as president, encouraged the girls to play as team with discipline and stated that courage and hard work are required in every sports to achieve set goals.
Observing the girl players, the Minister expressed that Manipuri women are determined to occupy bigger place in sports in the future and carve a niche in the global map.
Principal Secretary V Vumlunmang, DC Imphal East Dr Rangitabali Waikhom, veteran football player P Renedy Singh also spoke at the event and encouraged the players.
MLA Naoriya Pakhanglakpa AC S Subhashchandra Singh; MLA Yaiskul AC Th Satyabarta Singh; Arjuna Awardee, Oinam Bembem Devi and renowned footballer Ngangom Bala Devi attended the event.
It may be mentioned that Imphal East District Administration had distributed E-Slates to Anganwadi children, re-usable sanitary pads to girl children of Government and Government aided schools under the BBBP scheme besides holding many programmes such as baby talent show, Ningol Singgi Seishak Sheidanaba and screening documentaries films.
