St Savio School, Awangkhul emerged champions of the Inter School Football Tournament organised by 143 Bn CRPF and hosted by Longmai Bazar Youth Club at Longmai Common Ground, Noney.
St Savio School saw off Barean Baptist Academy, Lukham by 3-2 goals in hard fought match to clinch the championship title today.
Kariakhoun Kamson of St Savio was adjudged best player of the tournament while Rehma Public Academy's girls contingent bagged the best marching contingent award.
The valedictory function was attended by Rajesh Kumar, IPS, IGP, Manipur and Nagaland Sector Central Reserve Police Force as chief guest; Kenan Kamei, president, Rongmei Naga Council Manipur (RNCM) as guest of honour and Adai Dangmei, chairman, Longmai Village Customary Court (Thoupei); Brig SK Sharma YSM (Retd); Lal Chand Yadav, Commandant 143 Bn CRPF & G K Kabui, CMO, 143 Bn CRPF Lamphel HQ as other presidium members.
The chief guest of the function, IGP Rajesh Kumar remarked that Games and Sports are giving youths of the State a sea of opportunities including jobs in various institutions while many had earned name and fame by excelling at the National and international arenas in the respective fields, till date.
He also maintained that the tournament was being organised to help young talents showcase their skills and gave them a proper channel so that they could become successful players in due course of time.
The winners and the runners up of the championship, which was participated by 8 teams, were feted on the occasion with trophies, medals and cash prizes.
All the participating teams were also handed with sports materials.
