State Nehru Junior Hockey Tournament : UNACCO School vs Thaimei Guiganpou English School in U-17 boys final

UNACCO School, Imphal West will face off against Thaimei Guiganpou English School, Bishnupur in the 50th U-17 boys Nehru State Level Hockey tournament being organised by the Directorate of Youth Affairs and Sports.
In the final semi-final match of the competition underway at Khuman Lampak Hockey Stadium, UNACCO School defeated Brilliant Academy, Thoubal by 7-2 goals in a one sided affair.
Thonglen shone for the Imphal West team with a treble (17', 26', 55') while Nelson Y scored twice (9', 29') including one off a penalty comer.
Sh Borish (35') and Dilip K (51') also scored a goal each for UNACCO school as Ng Rajasana (12') and Bhagir T (30') scored a goal each for Brilliant Academy.
Later in the semi-final clash, Thaimei Guiganpou pulled off a hard fought 4-3 win against Young Pioneers' School, Imphal East to set up a final date with UNACCO School.
The Imphal East team were leading 2-1 in the first quarter as S Alish opened the scoring in the 8th minute before M Manimatum retained the lead in the 12th minute as W Rohit had equalised for the Bishnupur team in the 9th minute.
Y Rishi pulled level for Thaimei Guiganpou English School in the opening minute of the second quarter (16') before the two sides played out a barren third quarter.
The last quarter saw Imphal East regain the lead via Alish second goal in the 48th minute but the Bishnupur side fought back and E Bidyasagar chipped in with two goals back to back in the 51 st minute to overturn the lead.
As the Imphal East team failed to rally back, Thaimei Guiganpou English School walked home 4-3.Imphal West, Imphal East steamroll as Chandel beat Kangpokpi 5-2 in U-15 Boys tournament.
Unacco School and Young Pioneers' School cruised to convincing victories in the U-15 boys competition as Maha Union Govt Hr Secondary School, Chandel carved out a 5-2 win over Eklavya Model Residential School, Kangpokpi.
In the 8th match of the tournament (Group B), Unacco School demolished RK Sanatombi Vidyalaya, Jiribam 11-0 for the second win as skipper Sorokhaibam Sanson starred with four goals.
UNACCO School took a slender 2-0 first quarter lead courtesy goals from Ksh Borish (2') and S Sanson (4) before pumping in 7 goals in the second quarter with N Gerik (16'), Sanson (19', 25), L Max (20', 23'), K Sanjit (21), M Thoiba (22') finding the target.
Pebam Jackson converted a penalty comer in the 29th minute to make it 10-0 for UNACCO School till the third quarter before Sanson completed his four goal haul by converting a penalty corner in the 32nd minute.
The result also ensured UNACCO a semi-final berth.
Meanwhile in a Group A league match, Young Pioneer's School rode on The Yaiphaba's five goal (8', 17', 19', 38', 39') to crush Brilliant Academy, Thoubal 9-0 for the third straight victory and book the semi-final berth as Pool A winners.
W Derish also netted twice (28', 33') as M Manimatum (13') and S Khemanda (22') added a goal apiece to give Young Pioneers' School a huge win.
In another Pool B league match, Maha Union Govt Hr Secondary School edged past Eklavya Model Residential School 5-2 thanks to a double from Ch Puyamba (6', 19') and a goal each by Nohrin Valui (9'), Vinayaka Ch (38'), Charlish W (47') and M Sersana (50').The goals for the Kangpokpi team were scored by I Chandra (9') and S Makinson (57') .
