Friendly Archery Competition for men held

Imphal, July 22 2013:
In its ongoing efforts to promote sports in the State, 40 Assam Rifles of HQ 9 Sector AR under the aegis of IGAR(S) organised a friendly Archery Open Competition for Men at Keithelmanbi Archery Range.
Archery is the traditional game of Manipur and the State has produced renowned players in the game.
To further enhance and promote the spirit of the game and give an exposure to the young archers, the friendly Archery Open Competition was organised between archers of Assam Rifles Archery Team (ARAT) and archers of Sports Authority of India, Imphal.
The competition was conducted in two categories on the basis of open scoring for Recurve and Compound Division.
Four archers in each category participated from both the teams with ARAT finally winning the competition.
The competition was witnessed by Brig MK Das, Commander 9 Sector AR and Subash Basumatary, Director Sports Authority of India, Imphal.
The winning team and other participants who displayed outstanding performances were felicitated.
It may be noted that both ARAT and Imphal Archery Team are practicing to compete at the national level with both having given archery players to the state who have won laurels in national games.
Such healthy competitions will train the archers in and shall further promote archery as a sport in the state, according to a statement issued by PRO IGAR (S) .
