MEIRA, MPSC garner full points

MEIRA, Bashikhong survived some tense moments in the final minutes before defeating SSA, Charangpat 5-4 while Manipur Police Sporting Club overcame SYUC, Uchekon 7-4 in a high scoring encounter at the Dr Kanti Mukherjee Memorial Hockey Tournament on Friday.
MEIRA took early control in the first match and scurried to a 4-1 lead with Th Tompok accounting for all of their goals.
He opened the scoring in the sixth minute and slammed in three more goals within eight minutes (25th, 32nd and 33rd minutes) after H Romi had equalized for SSA.
Romi pulled one back again in the 41st minute only for S Sanjay to regain the three goal advantage three minutes later.

SSA staged a late fightback with L Dipu scoring in the 52nd minute and Romi completing his hattrick in the 59th minute to make it 5-4.However, MEIRA held on the slenderest of lead till the final whistle to take the match.
In the second match, Th Birjit contributed three goals as MPSC vanquished SYUC 7-4 in a thrilling encounter.
At one point of time, the score read 5-4 in the policemen's favour after SYUC's Surjit had slammed what turned out to be the last goal for his team and the game was up for anybody to grasp.
However, L Purnachandra strike in the 54th minute followed by Birjit's third sealed the match for MPSC.
Earlier, P Priyokumar put MPSC ahead in the 8th minute and Birjit made it 2-0 in the 21st minute.
SYUC responded quickly with a goal in the next minute by M Philepa.
Goals from Santikumar and Birjit in the 25th and 31st minutes appeared to have put the policemen in a safe spot as the scoreline read 5-1 .
However, Philepa led SYUC's resurgence with a goal in the 39th minute, after which teammates Roben (42) and Surjit (46th) beat the rival's custodian to put their team within sniffing distance of the eventual winners.
