Chief minister re-launches RCC for various sports disciplines

Chief minister N Biren Singh said government is extending every possible support to promote sports culture and sportspersons in the state.
He made this statement at the re-launching function of Regular Coaching Classes (RCC) of various sports disciplines under Youth Affairs and Sports (YAS) department at LangjingAchouba, Imphal West on Sunday.
Speaking on the occasion, chief minister reminded that the government is providing financial assistance of Rs 3 lakh each to around 15 sporting clubs to support their sporting activities and ease financial hardships faced by the clubs.
The government is also providingRs 1 crore to football clubs such as NEROCA and.TRAU which are participating in the I-League, he added.
Biren Singh maintained that young people should be consistently inspired and motivated to dream and achieve big goals, for which he also appreciated the parents and guardians for their unconditional support and encouragement to their wards.
He also gave due credit to the coaches and teachers for producing successful athletes from the state.
On the occasion, he directed the YAS officials to provide timely drinking water and edible items to the aspiring sportspersons or participants during the RCC camp.
Government would provide the necessary budget for providing eatables for the participants, he added.
He also noted that government would invite national and multinational companies to provide assistance towards nurturing the young sportspersons of the state through Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, for which he named Padma Shri awardee and renowned footballer of the state OinamBembem Devi to be the Brand Ambassador of the initiative.
During the function, chief minister also felicitated Bembem Devi for her recent achievement of receiving one of nation's highest award Padma Shri award.
It may be mentioned that Regular Coaching Classes (RCC) is a flagship programme of the YAS department that nurtures sportspersons in over 25 sports disciplines and has been conducted since 2002.Altogether 1200 students have registered for the football discipline under RCC.
The event was also attended by minister for YAS LetpaoHaokip, Education minister S Rajen Singh, YAS commissioner Bobby Waikhom, YAS director T Phulen Meitei and Padma Shri awardee Bembem Devi among others.
