Imphal, January 24 2022:
MPA, Thounaojam ended the winning run of YUCC, Kwakeithel Moirangpurel who were high on two of two Group A victories in the 3rd MNCA U-16 Boys Naorem Rajningthou Memorial Trophy 2021-22 at ABA ground, Kshetrigao today.
YUCC, who had registered thumping wins against PRTC, Patsoi and TRAU, Kwakeithel in the previous group stage matches won the toss today and chose to bat first.
MPA, Thounaojam bowlers, however, took YUCC by surprise and bowled them out for 82 runs within 14.1 overs even as Ningthoujam Rahulkumar made a late fightback with a quickfire 41 (7 fours and 1 six) off 22 balls.
YUCC had a disastrous start as they were reduced to 11 for 2 within 2.3 overs after Thoiba Ningthoujam who hit a six in the first delivery of the innings by Soram Naoboy, succumbed in the next ball and M Ricky was run out on 1.
MPA's Lanchenba Thoun-aojam (4/20 in 4 overs which include 2 maidens) and Elangbam Rohit (2/20 in 3 overs) then removed 6 crucial middle order batters including three on ducks to restrict YUCC to 36 for 8 in 8.2 overs.
Moramba Chongtham then spun well to dismiss Thiyam Rohit on a 5-ball duck in the second ball of the 12th over before Chingtham Albish Singh sent off YUCC's top scorer N Rahulkukar to finish with bowling figure of 1.1-0-6-1 (1 wicket for 6 runs in 1.1 overs) and wrap up the YUCC innings.
MPA then chased down the meagre target in 17.4 overs riding on skipper Elangbam Rohit's knock off 21 in 11 balls, Thounaojam Ruman Singh's 16 in 9 balls and most importantly 19 extra runs conceded by YUCC bowlers.
Even as MPA bowlers did extraordinarily well, their batting department almost suffered the same fate as that of YUCC as they were reduced to 49 for 5 within 10 overs.
They however held their nerves to reach home with only 1 wicket left in hand.
The innings saw spinner (off break), YUCC's Ningthoujam Kenedy Singh enjoy a three wicket haul sparing 11 runs in 4 overs which contained a maiden while leg spinner Khumanthem Prakash Singh (2/16 in 4 overs) and medium pacer Loitongbam Kiran Singh (2/15 in 3.4 overs) clinch two wickets each.
Eventually , MPA's Lanchenba Thounaojam who scalped four wickets was named man of the match.
