Dodda Ganesh to coach state men's cricket team

Former India international Dodda Ganesh has been appointed as coach of Manipur men's cricket team for the season 2021-22 with Manipur Cricket Association (MCA) signing contract with Dodda Ganesh in this regard on Friday.
Dodda Ganesh had played four test matches for India and played ODI against Zimbabwe in 1996-97.His first assignment for the Manipur cricket team will be the Syed Mustaq Ali T20 to be played in October this year.
After signing the contract for the one year with MCA, Dodda Ganesh told media persons that cricketers of Manipur have exceptional talents and four/five players from Manipur could play for Indian team by 2030 if they were given good coaching.
Performances of players from Manipur during U-19 national coaching camp have indicated that it would not be difficult to groom them to become world class players, he said, while adding that Manipur cricket team could not show good performance in domestic cricket even after becoming full fledged member of BCCI as the board did not provide good coaching facility since the inception of MCA in 1975 .
Expressing hope of improving standard of Manipur cricket team and preparing for upcoming domestic tournaments though win and loss are part of the game, Dodda Ganesh said that the selected players for Manipur cricket team will be given exposure in Tamil Nadu by playing friendly matches there.
While appreciating the talents of Manipuri players, Dodda Ganesh said that he felt proud when Mirabai Chanu won silver medal in Tokyo Olympic-2020; He also said that performance shown by state cricket players like Jotin, Ulenyai and Suresh in domestic cricket were not much inferior to that of prominent players of the country.
Dodda Ganesh was earlier the coach of Goa cricket team in 2012-13 season.
MCA also signed a contract with Purnendu Jena of Andhra Pradesh as trainer of Manipur cricket team.
