Badminton tournament kickstarts in Jiribam

Jiribam, October 22 2018:
A badminton tournament organised by District Administration Jiribam and Jiribam Badminton Club under Khelo India Scheme with the theme "Sports for Peace and Development" got underway today at Indoor Stadium at Bidyanagar, Jiribam.
The opening ceremony of the tournament which will last till October 24 was attended by Robert Singh Kshetrimayum, IAS Deputy Commissioner, Jiribam District; Lalbahadur Goala, president, Jiribam Badminton Club, Jiribam, Manipur; M Mubi Singh, MPS Superintendent of Police, Jiribam District and Sunil Kumar, CO, 87 Bn CRPF as presidium members.
An exhibition match was also played before the chief guest of the function declared the tournament open.
A total of 10 U-17 boys, 5 U-17 girls will be competing in the singles competition while 8 players will be taking part in the men's singles competition.
In the U-17 boys matches staged today, Mutum Kanthoi defeated Manish Chada 21-19, 21-8 while Ng Johnson outlasted L Mukta 21-7, 21-7 .
In the U-17 girls competition, K Chanbi defeated K Memory 21-7, 21-7 .
