NE Tennis Championship : Brojen-Rivasker win men's open doubles' title

T Brojen and Rivasker prevailed in the last two sets after their opponents Amlan Joti and Rupam Gogoi took the first set to force a tie-break to win the men's open doubles title of the ongoing 5th North East Cash Prize Tennis Championship 2017 at Officers' Club's Deko Turf Tennis Court, Lamphel.
Assam's pair of Amlan and Rupam kept their title dream alive as they secured the first set 6-2 .
The duo from
Manipur came back in the second set 7-5 leading to a tie-break.
The third deciding set was not easy for the Manipur's pair as the opponents came close but they managed to finish the set 7-6 .
Brojen and Rivasker of Manipur defeated the pair of Lalmachung (Mizoram) and A Mahesh in straight sets 6-1, 6-4 and entered the final.
Manipur's duo , N Kangjamba and Tuley Thongbam beat Dutta Gupta of Silchar and S Sharda by 2-1 sets to claim the above 45 years doubles title.
Kangjamba and Tuley whitewashed the first set 6-0 but the second set saw the pair of Dutta and Sharda draw parity 6-3 forcing the match into a tie-break.
Kangjamba and Tuley rose to occasion with fine serves and forceful smashes to finish the deciding set 6-2 .
The semi-finalists, Prakash-Ranjan and Ibohal-Sanatomba will also get the consolation prize in the above 45 years catogory.
In the above 55 years doubles final, Y Ibotombi and H Ibotombi enjoyed double bagel (6-0, 6-0) win against B Kakoti and Indrakumar to clinch the title of the category.
The pairs of Iboyaima-Ibotombi and Lemba-Kala will also get the consolation prize in the above 55 years category.
