Senapati, October 06 2019: A one day Inter-ICDS Projects Women Volleyball Tournament under the theme, "Empowerment of women through sports" was organised at Mt Everest College, Senapati, yesterday.

The opening ceremony of the tourney was graced by Chairman, ADC Senapati, A Kapani as the chief guest and SDPO Lakshay Sharma as the guest of honour.

Speaking at the event, Miranda Zimik, DPO, ICDS, Cell, Senapati said that the sharp decline of girl child sex ratio in the country is alarming.

Stating that the Govt of India introduced "Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao (BBBP)" programme on January 22, 2015 to address the issue of declining Child Sex Ratio (CSR) in the country, she mentioned that the overall goal of the scheme is to improve the status of women in the country.

The scheme also aims at preventing gender discrimination to ensure survival and protection of the girl child and to ensure education of the girl child, she added.

SDPO Lakshay Sharma, in his speech, also lauded the department for their fight against gender discrimination.

A Kapani, Chairman, ADC, Senapati also lauded the department for giving much importance on educating the minor to become a better person in the society.

The ADC Chairman also emphasised the importance of educating a girl child by quoting, "When you educate a girl child, you educate a Nation".

Later, the chief guest opened the tournament, which is participated by 12 teams from different blocks namely Mao-Maram - A & B, Paomata - A & B and Purul - A & B from ICDS Cell, Senapati and Kangpokpi - A & B, Saitu - Gamphazol - A & B and Saikul - A & B from ICDS Cell, Kangpokpi.

Mao-Maram B bagged the top position of the tournament and walked away with a cash prize of Rs 30,000 while Purul A clinched the runners up title and took home a cash prize of Rs 20,000 and Mao-Maram A secured the third spot, which carry a cash prize of Rs 10,000.All the other participating teams of the tournament were also reportedly awarded a cash prizes.
