Imphal, July 05 2018:
Sonalika FC became the first team to seal the final berth of the ongoing 4th AFC State Level 7-A-Side Men's Open Football Tournament 2018 with a 7-5 win over CWB via penalties after a 2-2 draw during normal time.
Both Sonalika FC and CWB, Charangpat made cautious start in the first semi-final match of the tournament at the AFC Ground but it was Govind who drew first blood in the 15th minute with his power-packed shot that proved to be a surprise to the custodian of CWB.
The Charangpat side, however, did not lose hope and intensified the attack searching for the equaliser.
Their efforts paid off when Y Sushilkumar latched onto the ball and sent it into the net and helped his team entered into the break with the 1-1 scoreline.
After the restart, Sonalika FC broke the deadlock when Tomarjit fired in a clinical shot in the 40th minute but fortune swung so fast that Y Sushilkumar of CWB came to the rescue and complete his brace the very next minute.
Despite various attempts from both ends to add the winner, the game ended in a 2-2 draw stretching the game to penalty shoot out.
In the shoot-out, Sonalika FC's Regan, Tomarjit, James, Julien and Govind made no mistake in slotting home the ball while only Sudhir, Suraj and Aron were able to find the net to concede by 5-7 margin.
