Indigenous Sports Meet 2020 held at P Khonomphai Village

Imphal, February 25 2020:
Indigenous Sports Meet 2020 was conducted from February 22 to 25 at P Khonomphai village in Kangpokpi district as a part of the continuous effort to promote peaceful coexistence and uphold territorial integrity of Manipur.
As per a statement released by Purum Area Youth Development Organisation, seven teams from different villages took part in football, volleyball (men and women), tug-of -war (men and women), mukna (indigenous wrestling) and lamjel (race) events.
The teams which participated in different disciplines are Sinam Kom, Lairok Kom, P Khonomphao A and B, SD Molnom A, Kongpal, PKYC and Ngakhapat Kom.
Lairok Kom were crowned football champions as Eesing Thenbi Kongpal finished runners up while P Khonomphai clinched the women's volleyball title beating Lairok Kom in the final.
Nungboi won the mukna title at the meet while Khoinao finished second.
Eesing Thenbi team won the tug-of-war crown beating Lairok Kom team in the final.
The closing ceremony of the sports meet was graced by Ranjan Meetei, president IEUCO; Huiyam Khoikhoi, president (UCCAN) United Chingtam Club Association and Pu Jhenkholal Haokip, chief of P Khonomphai as chief guest, functional president and guest of honour respectively.
In his speech, the chief guest urged all to shed differences and spread the feeling of oneness and love among all communities who have been residing in the State together for ages.
May such sporting events bring everyone closer and make Manipur a strong and united entity, he wished.
The guest of honour also highlighted the significance of the sports meet which was particularly aimed at reviving indigenous sports.
He also lauded the efforts of the organisers and wished them for successful conduct of such events in the future as well.
The dignitaries also handed out prizes to the winners and participants of various events during the closing ceremony, the statement continued.
