State Subroto Mukerjee Football : Imphal West's Nilamani English School crowned U-17 girls champions

Nilamani English School, Imphal West beat Poiroukhongjil High School, Imphal East in a 4-3 thriller to win the U-17 girls title at the State Subroto Mukerjee Football Tournament organised by Department of Youth Affairs and Sports.
The win also meant that the team will represent the State at this year's Subroto Mukerjee International Football tournament.
It was indeed an exciting final clash as Poiroukhongjil High School girls were at the helm of the affairs as Kimungsang hit a brace but additional time goals by Lynda Kom and Baby Lanchhandam overturned the lead to hand Nilamani English School the State title.

Poiroukhongjil High School which topped Group B before reaching the final spot with an impressive 12-1 victory over Emmanuel School, Chandel, took off the game on a positive note and sealed the lead in the 9th minute when Ng Pinku made a fine run into Imphal West's territory and unleashed a powerful shot.
The Imphal West girls which were also in their brilliant form throughout the tournament draw level through Lynda Kom in the 24th minute before Shilky hit another to hand the team a 2-1 lead till the break.
Poiroukhongjil High School girls were on their task right after the restart and managed to restore parity when Kimnungsang converted a penalty kick in the 47th minute.
The team looked certain to win the game when Kimnungsang hit another three minutes latter and held their lead till the very late minutes but Baby Lanchhandam of Imphal West made it all square in the first minute of the stoppage time and in an unexpected turn, Lynda Kom grabbed her second goal in the 3rd and completed the turnaround that shattered Poiroukhongjil High School's hope of representing the State in the international event.
The final match of the tournament was graced by Kh Pramoda Devi, Joint Director Youth Affairs and Sports as chief guest in the presence of L Jayenta Singh, Joint Director Youth Affairs and Sports.
Winners, Nilamani English School were also feted with a trophy and a cash prize of Rs 50,000 while Poiroukhongjil High School had to contend with a runners up trophy and a cash prize of Rs 25,000 .
