Sub-Junior and Youth State Basketball : Youth Club to meet YPHU in sub-junior boys' final

Youth Club, Uripok Achom Leikai will meet YPHU, Lalambung Makhong in the final of the 34th State Sub-Junior Boys Basketball Championship 2018 tomorrow at 2 pm while CYLC, Chingamathak will lock horns with YPHU in the summit clash of the 26th State Youth Basketball Championships 2018 latter in the evening.
The championships are being organised by Manipur Basketball Association at Model Club Basketball Court, Chingamakha.
Sub-Junior Boys: Youth Club Achom Leikai beat ESU, Wangkhei by 36-33 points in a keenly contested semi-final match to cruise into the final while YPHU defeated Model Club, Chingamakha to book the final berth.
In the first semi final match today, Youth Club led the first quarter by 10-7 points before trailing behind ESU by 14-17, 19-21 points in the second and the third quarters.
Youth Club did not lose hope and surged ahead with 17 points in the last quarter to seal the game by 36-33 points.
Tamchui shone in the match scoring 19 points for Youth Club while his teammate Bishwanath scored 15 points.
RK Devaraj also scored 2 points for the wining team.
On the other hand, Sananganba led the scoring for ESU making 12 points.
W Ronek (8 pts), L Banikanta (7 pts), S Churchill (4 pts) and Durbell M (2 pts) also scored for ESU.
The second semi final match saw, Young Physique Union, Lalambung Makhong see off Model Club by 42-36 points in a thrilling semi-final match to set up final clash with Youth Club.
YPHU trailed in the first quarter by 9-11 points while the second quarter also ended 16-17.YPHU however made a strong comeback in the third quarter to take a 24-20 points lead before the game tied at 36-36 in the last quarter.
An extra 5 minute was added to decide the winners in which YPHU edged over Model Club by 42-36 points.
L Rahul led the attack scoring 16 points while Krishnachary and M Lanchenba scored 12 and 7 points respectively.
Jenith H and Wilubou ML also contributed 6 and 1 points respectively.
W Babloo (11 pts), Kh Rohit (7 pts), H Lamyanba (6 pts), Ksh Naoba (6 pts), I Hanson (2 pts) and H Kane (2 pts) scored for Model Club.
Youth Boys : CYLC, Chingamathak edged out St Anthony, Chingmeirong by 54-49 points.
CYLC took off confidently taking a 16-7 points lead in the first quarter before sealing the second and the third quarter by 29-24, 40-32 points respectively.
W Robertson performed well to fetch 20 points alone for CYLC while Benish scored 18 points in this one sided match.
A Lenin (8 pts), L Ramesh (4 pts), A Kereen (2 pts) and K Walter also scored for CYLC.
ST Nelson (15 pts), S Ngaorai Bosco (12 pts), Rigunpou Gonmei (8 pts), V Avoinu (9 pts), Wijinlunbou (3 pts) and Dangmei Lunneiphun (2 pts) scored for St Anthony.
In the second semi final match of the tournament YPHU got better of Model Club by 52-47 points.
YPHU prevailed over the whole course and led the first three quarters by 20-7, 26-18 and 33-25 points respectively before wrapping up the game by 52-47 points.
L Bikash scored the highest 18 points for YPHU while A Bobychand and Tanson Kh contributed 16 and 13 points respectively.
N Rahul and L Nikash also contributed 3 and 2 points respectively.
S Bishal made 20 points for Model Club in this high scoring match while S Yaiphaba and Ch Katanjit bagged 13 and 10 points each.
Th Maioy and Ng Martin also gather 2 points each in this match.
