DG AR State Equestrian Championship kicks off

The 8th edition of the Director General Assam Rifles Cup, State Equestrian Championship was kicked off today in a glittering inaugural ceremony at the Polo Ground, Imphal.
In all 22 teams containing over 80 junior riders, senior riders and young girls from 10 different esteemed clubs are participating in the championship.
Major General C A Krishnan IGAR (S) who graced the inaugural function as chief guest said that it was an opportune moment to meet the riders and sports enthusiast from different section of the society.
The championship is aimed at encouraging the sports culture to discover hidden talents who would follow suite to the league of the games which originated from the state.
Dr S Joykuma, president MEA, retired IAS S Buddhachandra, President Manipur Horse Riding & Polo Association, Padmashree Ksh Thouranisabi and Brigadier Gajendra Prasad, VSM, Commander 9 Sector AR also attended the inaugural function as presidium members.
The function showcased the rich and varied cultural heritage of the state with traditional reception, songs, Pot-Lanba and dance.
The flag hoisting ceremony was followed by a March Past of the participating team led by piper band of 39 Assam Rifles.
The equestrian events are scheduled in a span of 6 days and include events like Tent pegging (team), individual tent pegging in junior and senior categories and individual show jumping in the two categories.
The tournament has grown from strength to strength with the participants increasing every year.
The championship has now emerged as an annual mega event contested by Equestrian enthusiasts from length and breadth of Manipur.
